I am currently in the market for a colt delta elite. Has anyone had any expierence with one. I belive the 10mm would be a great all around caliber in a handgun. I plan to use it for hunting, defense and informal target shooting.
thanks,

I am a dyed in the wool Colt entusiast but have never seen a Delta in 10mm that held up well over thousands of full power rounds. A heavier spring and a shock buffer are almost mandatory. I think in the long run you would be better served with one of the Glock or S&W 10mm pistols. (you don't know how much it pained me to say that)
Well, personally, I love my Delta Elite. It is accurate, reliable and real purty to look at! I haven't shot thousands of round through it, but I carry it on duty and always feel safe and secure. I have killed a ton of paper people with it! :2guns:
If you want a classic 1911 style and are willing to put in the time for maintenance, I would reccomend a Delta to anyone. That said,If you are looking for an everyday shooter or something to play with, the Glock 10mm are great guns also, and will not set you back the dollars that a Delta Elite will. As for S&W, well I had a 10mm Smith that made a great door prop when I was carrying in the groceries!! :D
Delta Elite is great. Make sure you use a Wolfe heavy recoil spring with a buffer and change the spring every 500 rounds. That will keep it working for a long time for you. You can use the full powered ammo or the lighter FBI type stuff for practice. I saw a blued DE at a recent gun show for only $475 and should have grabbed it but I already have one.
 $475! You just made me cry! I could have found a justification for another one at that price!
Really honey, I need it because I have that extra holster to fill! :D

$475 for a DE?!?! Should have bought it and resold it. You could have made some easy money.
I'm waiting till they make that puppy in 45LC. Oh yea, that would make me buy another one. 10" barrel, 350gr slug at about 1300fps, fraction of the cost for 50AE ammo. That's enough to get the blood pressure up. :D

I really enjoy mine. Recommend a lighter hammer too, as the original peened the underside of the slide. Also, a plus with the DE is that you can get a .40 S&W barrel and swap 'em out without having to change the extractor or ejector. Ed Brown sells a "kit" of barrel, springs, link and pin, and bushing. I even use the same mags.

Hee-hee: I got one for $400 about a year ago!
Nice old 10mm guy who was getting rid of his DE
and wanted someone to get a good deal...
Fact. The 10mm will do at 200 yards what the 45acp will do at the muzzel. :sniper:
