It was windy today, but had to shoot anyway to try out the rifle after adjusting the head spacing of the bolt. I got the head space on this bolt a bit close at .042". I can say it seemed to shave .100" of all groups whether they be nice n tight, or flier groups. This was my best group with wind at 7:00 @ gusty 12 mph, and brite sun at 10:00. (had to shoot with left hand over eyes). I believe I have squeezed the last bit of accuracy out of the humble Winchester Dynapoints. I now have to move up to Match ammo for further improvement.
You guys about ready for an official match? I feel it coming real soon! :D
Yeah buddy, that's what I'm talking about. I took mine down to .043 and stopped because I tend to get carried away...... now I'm like you it's time for some different ammo. I'm going to try to find some Federal Classic which used to punch some pretty small holes to start with in this barrel. So bring on that offical match!!! I've got another month before we leave the coast and head back to the Lake Fork where our home point is. Up there we don't have a range close by and the only place to shoot is a place on an oil lease with one big mound and 75 yds at the most. Then I'll have to put the red dot back on the mini for a tarrget shoot.

I just got done editing the "Head Space your Bolt" tip. I edited, and added info to text, and pic. I found a burr in both bolts at the fwd end of the firing pin slot, which may cause the firing pin to kick-up. Posted my range results. I noticed I don't have the "lite rounds" i.e. low fliers now! :D
Hey Cajungeo I got the wife and all the guns and went to the range yesterday and we had a ball. It was so windy we couldn't even think straight much less shoot straight but it was fun anyway. This has been my first experiance with such a tail wind and it can do strange things with small bullits. Anyway the 10/22 shot great and was grouping like never before. I had at least one group like the one in your pic with the Dynapoints but with two just a fraction off. Then I put up a couple of the 4-points targets and all of a sudden it started shooting like a scatter gun ...... I was scratching my head and my a........ never mind. Anyway when we got to the house I broke it down and looked it over and found that the carbon had built up on the edges of the bolt face especialy arround the extractor side. I have been useing the 10/22 as my test gun for the MiliTec-1 lube, I used it on everything and polished it down as per instructions and have had flawless functioning. The build up just wiped off for the most part with a paper towel, the heavy stuff arround the edges where the rim of the bullit seats was a toothpic job. I need to check for that burr in the firingpin slot and then I think I'll polish the cut out where the bullit seats and treat it with the MiliTec-1 again, then the next time we shoot I'm carying a small brush I can clean the bolt face with when it stops grouping or better yet before it stops.

The wind might have shifted on ya. It did on me. I keep forgetting to take a piece of hunters tape to use for wind direction and force.
Actualy it did shift on us a couple of times but I didn't think it was enough to cause the change in POI as much as it did. We'll find out though next time out.
