Hello Fellow Hunters...

How was everyones season? My old Marlin 336c in 35 Rem did it's job, I was fortunate enough too get 3 nice Bucks. As for hogs we hunt them year around, I Hog hunt at least 3 or 4 times amonth and every hunt is different.

Planning a Russian Boar hunt up at a place in South Carolina. My partners all hunt with 444's & 45-70's and they don't think my little old 35 Rem can handle a 400-500 lb. Russian Boar. They may be right if I'm shooting the 200gr. Remington, but I can assure you the 220gr. Buffalo Bore can handle the task quite easily.

Has anyone on here done much Russian Boar hunting? and what gun did you use hunting?

:usa:Thanks 35RemHogHunter

35 Remington:

A good catridge in it's class, better than a 30-30 yes, better than a 308 or 30-06 no. The velocity and energy figures are not much different than a 30-30 but the larger heavier bullet has greater shock effect and makes a more severe wound channel. Its a great cartridge at 150 yards and under.

I've always been a shooter but never much of a hunter, but since I bought my 35 I've decided it's time to blast a Bambi. A buddy has taken a deer each year for the past nine with his trusty 35, a Rem 336-C. I happened on a great deal on one of my own this year, and even with me shooting, it does one-inch groups at 100 yards, once I scoped it. The Rem. 150-grain load was not that great, but the 200 shoots well enough that I have total confidence in it. The trigger will get some work, then we go hunting in Missouri this fall. Learning to hunt deer at age 47 should be fun, as long as my buddy doesn't expect me to hike ten miles!

I happened on a great deal myself, My grandfather was giving each of his grandsons a rifle for Christmas in 1988, I asked for and recieved a 1964 336 Marlin 35 remington, a rifle he bought in 1964. I take a lot of BS in hunting camp, I'm the only one using a levergun, everybody else shoots one of the Moose mangling mags that has a ballistic coeffie...(sp), what is this anyway? I know this 4 of us go elk hunting every year, for the last 12 years I always brought one home, not one of the laser guided, 800 yard elk mangling, $1200 gun toting Charles whitmans' can say that.

I hunt with .35 rem, mostly handloads. I don't use a lever though, I use a Thompson Contender that I have had for 14 years. Love the round, maybe I ought to get me a levergun. :D Oh, I do own a big gun for elk, but my name isn't Charles Witman, never been on a clock tower, and never mangled an elk at 800 yards but have sent 5 elk to the pot ( no farther shot than 300 yards, I know the limitations plus I shoot highpower at 600 yards and that is a long wayyyy off).

I tried one for a few months and couldn't get used to it. Now I miss it and the only thing Iv'e got left is a set of dies. Anyone need a set of .35 rem dies?

B) I load the Speer 180 grain pushed with H 335 powder. The 335 seems to work well in the short barrel. :sniper:

I had a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem. years back and gave it to my Dad. He used it for a couple of years, then sold it. I just picked up another. Gonna keep this one. It'll join my other L/A Marlins (.22, .357, .44 Mag., .30-30 and .45-70). I've loved Marlin lever actions ever since Dad gave me my first gun, a Golden 39A Mountie.

i was looking into purchasing a Marlin 336 30/30 win. rifle this fall and i was wondering what you all had to say about them, such as tips or recommendations on purchasing a lever action for deer hunting, becuase many people these days are saying you need a lightweight fast bullet i think i would like to try out the slower moving calibers becuase i really like leveractions :2guns:
