Can you mount a red dot?
convert to a HK style circle in circle sight?

I've seen parts suppliers that sell bolt on flat tops w the weaver rail for the FAL rifle. Get one of these and mounting a red dot sight will be a snap from there.

DSA and TAPCO both sell top covers for scope mounting. I believe ARMS makes one also. General consensus seems to be the DSA is more rugged, but bulkier and more expensive. You could always snug up the rear sight to reduce wobble, and drill and tap the aperture for a standard screw-in aperture, which makes the standard FAL sight much better.
Dunno about anyone making an H&K "ring" sight, but KN (?) does make a crosshair front sight. Break out the Dremel, boys: sounds like a good WECSOG project to me!

I would recommend the ARMS mount over the DSA. The DSA mount will mar the finish of your receiver, and is heavy as a brick. BUT, it is bomb proof. But so is the ARMS mount, witch can be installed and removed esily, and in my opinion looks much better.
If you can find one, but a Williams QR PRO scope mount. They are no longer made, but they pop up from time to time. Watch marketplace at falfiles.com . This is where I found mine!
I am currently using the Williams mount and Aimpoint 5000 XD 2X scope. I LOVE this Aimpoint, and it can be found for around $200.00 if you search! Keep in mind that I am in the military and very familiar with ML2. For my current FAL set-up, I prefer the 5000 XD 2X (the 2X is perfect...1.5 MOA dot!).

I have three of the DSA mounts. Mojo_matic is right: they're heavy. Don't worry about a marred finish unless you have a show rifle and plan on field stripping it for picky viewers. The DSA mount will not move, and you won't loose zero. Interestingly enough, I pulled it off for cleaning and the zero hadn't shifted after reassembly.. that's got to count for something. I haven't tried the A.R.M.s.
I also have a Tapco mount. Yeah, I know.... laugh, but it hasn't moved any. I beat the stuffing out of it on a heavy Isreali.
If you're "snap shooting", the Trijicon Reflex II is the best thing going. The triangle reticle allows fast, accurate, two eyes open sighting. It's easy on the eyes and requires no batteries to forget to shut off. No magnification negates paralax issues. I mount mine forward scout style with a DSA Picatinny Rail setup. Best for CQB, but adequate out to 200 yds. Zero with the tip of the triangle at 100 yds. Target with the center of the triangle in CQB. Streamlight's M-6 rounds out the package.
The stock FAL sights are very adjustable. DSA crosshair fronts are available from DSA, as are luminous ones. Don't be afraid to rely on your irons. :2guns:
