Just a quick question is there any room in here to add the FN-49. In my sorry state we can't own FNs. I do have an FN-49 the daddy of the FN-FAL so any room for that highly under rated but excellent battle rifle in this group?

Never heard of it. Please describe and elaborate...

Well the FN-49 was designed before WW2 but wasn't produced until After. It was used by Belgium in Korea and several third world countries used it. Mine is chambered for 8mm built for Egypt. Here is a link to some info and a picture.

If it doesn't work just google FN-49 lots of stuff comes up.

Anyway it was designed by the guy who built the FN-FAL and uses a similar operating system. Mine is a great shooter and a real blast to use. If it had seen service a little sooner it would have really given the M1 a run for its money.

Thanks for the link! What about magazine price and availability and capacity?

It was designed to reload from stripper clips. The mag comes off but the feed lips were built into the reciever. A few 1000 were modified for the Argentinian Navy
converted to 308 and had 20 round mags. I believe those are hard to find. I first saw it in one of the Guns and Ammo Surplus specials. I thought I'd never see one but would like to have it. Then a few years later I found one in a local gun shop they didn't even know what it was. I went back a week later and snapped it up. I paid around $340. for it. The gas valve was frozen so I cut it off and got a replacement from Sarcos.

It is easy to assembl and disasemble and very accurate.

Any one else have one?

I forgot to say that you only need the magazine that comes with the rifle if its in standard shape. Also another link with more info.

I guess I will chime in here. I got an Argentine Navy FN-49 in .308 about a year ago. They can still be found at Southern Ohio Guns along with spare mags. The mags run in the $40-$70 range.

That being said, I love my FN-49 but love my FAL's and L1A1's more.
