When the current assalut weapons ban expires this upcoming Sept. 13, will that just re-legalize the banned features on semi-automatic guns as well as the banned weapon types or will it extend to all items in the Violent Crime Control Act of 1994 such as hi-cap magazines, armor piercing ammunition, etc?

All of the features of the violent weapon control act will cease to exist. This will legalize all those other "evil" features and remove the preban/post ban label. This will also mean that all your reduced cap mags will go back to standard capacity. When you buy your AR15 you'll get a full-cap 30rnd mag as opposed to the handicapped 10 rnd mag you are getting now. All your pistols will come with full size mags as well.

I think I have an interesting question?

If and when the AWB sunsets, do all current firearms purchased under the current ban then become "pre-ban" if the AWB is again passed after a period of time, or would those firearms then again revert back to AW status and not be "grandfathered".

I hope you follow what I'm saying.......In other words, I just purchased a mini 14. It falls under the AWB as far as modifications goes. When the AWB sunsets, I could then add "evils" to the firearm, though I won't.

But, if the AWB is then extended after a period of "sleep", does my rifle then revert back as being subject to the AWB, or would it be forever gradfathered as our current "pre-ban" rifles are now?

(I'm confusing myself here).

Well Dave, your hypothetical synopsis makes sense, so therefore I wouldn't count on it.

When it comes to politics and liberals out to take your 2nd ammendment rights away, does anything make sense?

As I understand it, you can add "evil" devices to your rifle, reguardless of when it was built.

What I'm curious about, is whether or not LEO firearms & mags which are built/marked as such will loose their "LEO" status...and become available to general public?

If you think the liberals are going to let the AWB die this fall you are living in La La land. They will fight tooth and nail to keep it alive and then tell anyone who will listen it's in "our" best interset that it become permanent. The liberal media will see to it that the ban is kept alive and that their man Kerry is the next president to see to it that he protects the "innocent" from all of us gun baring whacko conservatives who at any moment will shoot up some school or senior citizen center or maybe some publicly movitivated Democrat who only wants to serve his constituants. The liberals want to neuter the conservatives no matter what the costs. What better way than with taking away the ultimate symbol of liberty, our firearms. Thanks for letting me vent.

Except Ruger.

Except Ruger.

Ruger won't include hi-cap mags with their new Minis post 9/13? 5-round clips are really annoying for target practice and the 20 rounders seem ideal for this. I hope this doesn't mean that the left has managed to get Ruger housebroken and selling only PC guns. That would be a shame.

But don't give up hope yet! Remember, the left is betting that if they push hard enough and long enough on this issue, they will get gun owners to fold and see things their way. Its time to resist, argue and vote for what we believe in! We did it once before with the Republican landslide of 1994 and we can do it again! We're Americans, darn it! And guns are as American as mom and apple pie! So when November of this year comes around, go to the polls and show 'em whose the boss of the USA - the politicians or the people! All you Californians out there - VOTE FEINSTEN OUT OF OFFICE! All you New Yorkers - SCHUMER'S GOTTA GO! It John Kerry or George Bush intend to support gun control measures, VOTE LIBERTARIAN! This acceptance and apathy over a possible extension of the AWB is exactly what the liberals would like you to accept and believe. It makes a perfect environment for their next gun control measures! And as they have stated already, the AWB is only the stepping stone in an eventual disarmament of the public. I once heard a story that said that if you had a pure white sheet in your hand, someone could trade you that sheet in exchange for a white sheet which was white but not pure white as the original. This process could be repeated until you were holding a sheet that wasn't even white at all - just black. And you wouldn't even realize it until it was too late. Such is the truth for gun laws as well. And the AWB was the first step down that road. And if we begin to accept this we are walking right down that road.

Be careful there AR15fanatic. They've got you brainwashed into speaking liberal already. They are not hi-cap magazines, but are standard capacity magazines. The 10rnd ones are reduced cap mags. But yeah, get out there and vote this election! I highly recommend voting Republican unless GW would make the unfortunate mistake of signing an "AWB" renewal. That's my line in the sand.

Bush HAS promised to sign an extension of the AWB should it pass congress. Combined with the Patriot Act, this down not make him a friend of the gun owner.

The promised extension of the current bill.
Anything new on the bill and he could have a back door.

If Bush has not pushed for the AWb by now then i dont think he ever will.
He knows it would cost him and his party like it did clinton in 94.

The AWB will only sunset if you keep writing and calling your elected officials. They have short memories. You can be certain the anti group is constantly on their backs. Don't stop until the AWB is sunsetted. We must be serious.

Sorry I forgot one thing. Don't wait for the Presidentail Elections to solve the AWB. Tell each and every one of your elected officails you want it buried. It will to late after the elections. The President does not pass laws. Tell your elected officials how your feel or else they will vote against you and in support of the anti's who are calling and writing. Write and call every month.

I agree! we have to keep pressure on our congresscritters; if enough people contact them they will count the only thing that matters to most of them - votes.

Write snail-mail to your representative and BOTH senators. E-mail is ok, but hard copy mail seems to be more important to them.

If you are not sure who your representative / senator is, or need an address, go to

www.senate.gov for senators
www.house.gov for representatives.

Make them aware of your feelings.

The understanding I have is the rule of thumb that politicians use is that for every letter they get, they figure there are 100 other people who feel the same way about whatever the issue might be. The more letters, the more voters who hold a position.

Keep the letters going. None of this "one letter with 50 signatures" stuff; that is 1 letter; counts as 100 voters. If everyone writes their own letter, 50 letters = 5000 votes!

I have written my representative, and both senators. Elizabeth Dole can go either way; John Edwards is anti-gun although he mouths pro-hunter words. He's a divide and conquer antigunner.

Keep up the good fight!!

I found a good way to get to the left wing Senators and H.Reps. When you call in to their D.C. office, all the screener asks for is your zip code. Find out which zip code these officials service and say that you live there. Then tell them you oppose the renewal of the A.W. ban.
When these officials start getting calls from their " constituents"(us gun lovers) they may be willing to change their tune. I know my Senators and Reps are against renewing it, and maybe some of these fence sitters will too if we call them enough.

Just another thought

That would be a great idea, but in a way, that's misrepresenting the people, which, knowing how our country works, is actually undermining the way of government we love. What really needs to be done is that for every government official that represents a group of people (i.e. a zip code) we need the gun owners there to speak up. From what I can tell by talking to my gun-lovin friends, most folks who have guns tend to keep to themselves. Unfortunately, this is what has us losing our rights. No one thinks we want them. there are many people in Cali that love guns, but they havn't spoken up enough and now look where we are (I reside in the Republik of Kali). Tell your friends who have guns, and even the ones who don't but still support them, that they really need to write thier elected official. If you are reading this now and havn't done so, you need to. It's the only way we really can protect our rights as citizens.

I've never been on that soapbox before. I'll get off now.

I agree but I've rationalized it for myself saying I'm speaking up for those who do not use their voice. And its for a just cause.
