I just got done shooting my old Ruger MK1 Target Pistol. I havent had the wepon for years, just got it, and took it to the range. I tried to Field Strip the wepon, and I somehow screwed up! I Downloaded the Owners manual from Ruger, but Its not realy clear. I can get the mainspring fliped out, but I cant pull it out (Down). I Put the spring back, and now the wepon wont cock!!!! When you put the mainspring back you have to have the barrel pointed upwards so the hammer strut will be in the right position,, you may also have to pull the trigger to release the hammer or else you will be trying to compress the mainspring by hand your saftey has to be on F for this...

ARGH!
Itried it again this morning, but still not luck. The Mainspring and Pin still will not come out! I think I might have to take this to a Gunsmith.
Thanks

when ya get the bolt in, you practically gotta get the pistol turned upside down and pull the trigger to make sure that the hammer hits the bolt, then the hammer strut must swing free (pistol back in the upright position). With the hammer strut swingin free, ya just pop the mainspring housing up through the reciever and if you can feel the spring action of the hammer strut on the mainspring you can snap the lock on the mainspring into place. Your done. Super easy when you know how the gun works. If you can't put the gun back together, you definately don't want to attempt a detailed strip of the gun. If I was you I would call around to your local gun shops and see if someone there will show you real quick how it goes back together. They should even charge you because a person with familiarity with a MK1 or MK2 can put that thing back together literally in seconds.

I cant get the darn thing apart! I Think it was never striped in somethihng like 10 years! It was my fathers wepon, and he gave it to me. I have had it in storage for quite a while. It shot fine, I just cant get it appart!.

Here is what I have ended up doing. Having owned one for 24 years now. After having it apart only 2 times. And swearing I will never do it again. I bought a big can of Gun Scrubber. I hose it down, let it set and drain for awhile and then hose it down again. Let it drain. Then wipe it as clean as I can with what ever I can get into all the holes, then hose it down with Rem. oil. Let it drain, wipe it down one more time. Then run patches through the bbl and put it away. It has never missed a beet for me doing this.

devildogmech I'm moving this topic to the semi-auto handgun section as this is for 10/22 rifle. Maybe someone there can give you further help.

I read that if the weapon is cocked, it won't come apart...
Maybe a call to ruger is in order...

I GOT IT FIXED!!!!! My MasterGunnerySergent figured it out! The previous owner had installed a pin backwards, that prevented the retaining pin from coming out. We ended up having to use the Machinist Brass pinch set, and beat the pin out. Once we flipped the pin, staked it (That suckers never coming out), and filed it smooth, the retaning pin will drop out nice and smooth. Now I just have to get the armorers to put the damn thing back together. (they took all the dowel pins out, trying to figure out what was the problem.)
Here is a tool made for Mark 1 and 2 that make it a little easier working on your Ruger : Ruger Tool (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=20217&title=RUGER+MK+I%2fMK+II+TAKEDOWN+TOOL)
