About a month ago i ordered a Meprolight tritium front sight for my Mini-14. Its just a barrel-band, direct replacement for the factory front sight.

However, i went to install it last weekend, and got it stuck. Managed to get it back off, and did some measuring with my calipers. (shoulda done this first)

The front sight band is 7-8 thousandths of an inch SMALLER than the diameter of the barrel at the front sight pin hole. There's no way that could be a press-fit. Have you installed any of these sights in the past? Have you found it necessary to hone the inside of the front sight ring? Or turn down the barrel slightly?

I'd appreciate any input you had.

I have not put one on, but if I ran into the touble you are having I would ream out the band rather than turn down the barrel. A few thousandths like that could even be acomplished with a dowel and fine sandpaper spun in a hand drill. If it pesters you some more I wil be happy to get it on there for you.

Yeah, i'm gonna see if i can take it down a little and get it on there myself. But if i get into trouble, how much would you charge for something like that? If i just sent you the receiver/barrel and the front sight.

Thanks.
