Welcome to the forum johnr. It sounds like a plan to me. Would they compete against std barrel with iron sights which shoot at 25 yds? Or in a class by their selves?

cajungeo I would say it should be by its self if they want to shoot at a 50 yard target against a scoped 10 22 good for them , they have better eyes then I do but it would not be fair to them for me to shoot against them with my rifle it will shoot groups of 10 shots that you can cover with a dime at 25yards in a 20 to25 mph \ wind , but if they want to shoot with this class ,all I CAN SAY IS LETS LET THE TARGETS HAVE IT!!! HOTROD AN I ARE WORKING ON A NEW TATGET FOR THIS CLASS HE IS #1 SON :usa:

Would this be the same rules for a standard barrel with iron sites for the gun with just adding a scope to the gun. Seperate class from iron sites of course. Distance see what interest. Some of us with them week eyes might need more tha a 4x scope for 50 depending on target.

My eyes are so good I can see the bullet fly. Course I'm peaking thru a 16x.

Ok sounds fair to me. If you want to post a challenge then please post it in the Target shooting section.

habanero has an open challenge in there now.

I'm going to try to get my rifle back together, and so some shooting this weekend. You guys better watch out! :ar15:

BTW I'm moving this thread to the Shooting section for a better fit.

orcoast we may need to change yardage on distance though we may make some meat targets like frogs, bushey tail. the grays and reds, you now take the cameria get some pics. then add the bull eye . maybe put some flys on it so cajungeo can shoot them whil he watches his bullets go down range, dandy lions make good targets to with stems on them and shoot the stem, cajungeo I WILL NOT LET HOTROD SHOOT THE GUN HE BUILT THAT IS POSTED HERE THAT ONE WE SHOOT THE FLYS OFF OF THE TARGETS WITH IT AT 5O YDS IN A 15MPH CROSS WIND IAM NOT PULLING YOUR LEG EATHER but we may realy have to change the distance :usa: :sniper:

you can see the bullets better with x24

There are quite a few animal targets at these sites:

Just joined and this looks interesting. Is anything happening with this class? With the weather starting to get decent up here(40 and up) I'm getting the itch. Or should I just pick a tartget and post it to start the challenge?

Welcome to the forum gpkon66. Go for it. You can challange and/or answer someone elses challenge. It is beautiful down here, but dang it the rain on the week ends. I may have to wrap my target in plastic, but I gotta shoot some this weekend rain or shine! :D

Ok, I'll grab a target, and get something up in the next couple of weeks. I live 40+ miles from the range so I have to plan carefully. My wife got my 10/22 for me about 12 years ago, pretty much box stock, action cleaned up a little, bushnell 4x and no barrel band, shoots about anything good enough for plinking. I'll have to do some serious bench work while doing this. Any excuse to shoot is a good excuse. Later

Not sure what is happening here on this, but I will put up a couple of targets I shot today. Still trying to find the right kind of ammo that will shot in my gun. So far it has come down to Winchester Wildcats and CCI Mini Mag. Doubt I will find any target type ammo locally, so I will have to put together an order for some. But I will throw out something to get things started.

This was with a 4x scope, standard barrel, bedded, flosted, and some trigger work by myself.

This was 10 shots, not quite sure of one, but is probably by the lower right shot. Wasn't a flyer and I am sure it had ten rounds in the mag.

Hi Orcoast, do you happen to have a link to that target? Or is it just the standard 50 ft 10 bull target? Also I agree, looks like its right next to the one on the lower right. I'll try to get a target that we can take a score off of instead of group size, just so it'll be easier to keep track of. Hope I can match your group size. Say doesn't the 10 bull target have score markings? Thanks, gpkon66

These are some targets I bought from Sportman's Guide (I think) that was on sale for 100 of them. It is a surplus U S Army 50' small bore rifle target.

The outer circle is 1 13/16 inch in diameter. Largest circle in center of the circle is 3 1/16 inch.

Sheet is 11 1/4 inches wide, so I can't quite get a full scan of it. Will be glad to send you a scan copy if you would like.

Thanks Orcoast, I've got some of those, just with the NRA logo on the bottom. I just wanted to make sure that they were the same. I'll give those and some of the others with scoring rings a try and then post.

Glad to see some of you are able to do some shooting. I have been wanting to since I got the shooting bug again.but it has been mud since the ice went out of the ground and rain after rain and now we have sloppy mud. We just about have to use the boat to shoot out of and we have 15 to 30 mph winds its not fun in that every day. But it will get better ,then I will pop some caps since my range is about 450ft. from the house, in Mo. the weather changes every 24 hours they say!HA HA!!!!!!!!! The bottom right hole has 2 in it or he had a big 22!!! Youal try different yardage and see what youal like my idea is not cut in stone if you think it needs to be 35 or 40 or what ever we can try it us old folks with bad eyes need all the help we can get and still be fair for eveyone. GOOD SHOOTING TO EVERYONE AND HAVE FUN :usa: :sniper:

Sorry guys, great weather yesterday, but I had obligations. Today, snow, blowing and cold. I'll give it a try next weekend. I printed off several different styles of targets to try, so I'll let you know which one presents the best, doable, challenge with a 4x scope. Thanks

Hi guys, finally got to go shooting, found out that I can't hold on the smaller dia. 50ft bulls so I went with this target. Must mean I have a ways to go with my gun.

http://is-lan.com/challenge/images/target5.pdf

Is the target I ended up with. Good luck. I'll try some bedding and different ammo. This was shot with Win Super X, 40 gr solids. The Fed was even worse. Later

I have bedded, floated barrel, reduced headspace, and some trigger work. I have worked down the list of mods ( at least the ones I can do myself) to the point of going to a bull barrel to get any more improvement. I am interested in seeing what kind of accuracy you can get out of a regular barrel at 50 yards. One of the biggest seems to be the type of ammo. The better the ammo, the better the groups is what I have found. I got some good groupld at 25 yds with Wildcats but not at 50. I just tried some American Eagle that did fairly good at 50. Almost as good as the CCI minmags. I am still looking for that one my gun likes best. Going to try some match grade type stuff next. Got to see if it is worth it or not.

Hoping some others would post so I can see how accurate these guns are with a standard barrel at 50 yds.

I am just using a 4x scope and hold a zero on a small circle at 50 yrds is a definite eye strain for me to. If I get that bull barrel I will definately have to go to a higher power scope.
