I was reading the shot gun news and there was a spread for a 50 cal in 1911. Does anyone have any info on this.

see the site

www.guncrafterindustries.com

It uses proprietary ammo up to 900 pfs. smaller than the AE round.

41 AE, 400 CORBON, 45 GAP, 45 Super, 460 Rowland any of these ring a bell. All of these proprietary cartridges look good on paper and actually serve a purpose (ok maybe not the GAP or Super) but unless you are just into oddball calibers they are just another flash in the pan.

Not to mention expensive as well. I liked the Corbon as it was basically a barrel change from .45, but it is too much $$ if you shoot enough of it.

why would you need to shoot much of it, 400 corbon? just practice with .45, that's all. in fact, .45 Super brass is NO thicker or stronger than .45 ACP brass. You can get a 160 gr swc to 1400 fps in a standard .45 ACP barrel, and to 1500 fps in a fully supported, 6" barrel, with heavy springs. Since 160 gr swc's, at 1500 fps were good enough to let Colonel Wesson take both elk and grizzly, with his 8" 357, they are enough to hunt big game with, using a .45, too.

Check the July/August issue of American Handgunner page 64, Starline is making brass for it. :usa:

I think that gun will go far as soon as it gets into some Spec ops guys hands. The military should discard 9mm altogether and put some serious R&D in this round. It is a special cartridge that is no longer than the .45 and doesn't recoil much more. If not for the damn high-ass price I'd love to have one. Same goes for the Unertl MEU-SOC.

I beleive I read an artical about this a few mounths ago in Gun's N Ammo. I beleive the cartridge is refered too as a 50GI. The only Quote I remember from the artical was similar too "NO, You can not convert a standard 1911 to 50GI".
