Well it came today. Overall I am very pleased with it. Being a rack grade I expected the barrel to be worn, and it was (as you can see by my bullet test picture-it failed). The finish is worn with a bit of surface rust on the barrel, it needs a good cleaning... stock is dinged but not badly beat up. Lots of character.
Serial number is 693494, which makes it a July 1942 man. date according to some sites that I found (http://www.jouster.com/serial/Springfield.html). Would sure love to know the story behind this weapon...
It has a "P" inside a square on the grip part of the stock. Actually 2 of them, one is very lightly stamped.
I can see that CMP will be getting lots of business from me in the coming years. :P
