Well it came today. Overall I am very pleased with it. Being a rack grade I expected the barrel to be worn, and it was (as you can see by my bullet test picture-it failed). The finish is worn with a bit of surface rust on the barrel, it needs a good cleaning... stock is dinged but not badly beat up. Lots of character.

Serial number is 693494, which makes it a July 1942 man. date according to some sites that I found (http://www.jouster.com/serial/Springfield.html). Would sure love to know the story behind this weapon...

It has a "P" inside a square on the grip part of the stock. Actually 2 of them, one is very lightly stamped.

I can see that CMP will be getting lots of business from me in the coming years. :P

Love the Pics! The M1 is a great weapon and fun to fire. It has a lot of history behind it and it is too bad they can't recite what was experienced, who had it, and where did it serve. A Proud Part of American History and the " Greatest Generation". :usa:

Excellent!!

Now, as you already know, the next time go for a service grade H&R, as those are post WWII and you can get some very nice shooters from them. Ain't it nice to have rifles delivered to your door?

And welcome to the board! Do you post as topknot on the CMP board as well?

mikr, that is what I purchased last summer. Got one built in '55, very good shape. :D

Excellent!
Remember not too long ago we were limited to ONE rifle purchase PER year??

Now it is what, 8?

the trick is to monitor the CMP forum daily, to see what has or is coming in, and then jump on it!

I love the M1!

You are RIGHT! I look at the sight on a regular basis (kinda hoping for the Greece M1's to arrive.) Now that we can pick up to 8 and choose the receiver and grade, getting a good M1 isn't as hard. :D

Heh, the H&R Service grade will be my next purchase!

Mikr: No, I haven't posted in the CMP Forum, but now that you've brought it to my attention, I will start soaking up the knowledge there as well. Thanks for the tip.
