A jeweled bolt is for the purpose of holding lube on its surface. This is done on the shiny outside surface of the bolt. However this modification doesn’t do one thing for accuracy or reliability on your 10/22. It just makes it so purty you will get all kinds of compliments at the range. It is an eye catcher!
You will need a drill press, drill press vice, 1/4” stainless brush, and coarse valve lapping compound. Along with a straight edge and a couple of C-clamps.
The stainless brushes are carried by Brownells ENGINE TURNING BRUSH (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=608&title=ENGINE+TURNING+BRUSHES) . These are 3/16” when you get them use a piece of shrink wrap, or wrap a couple of wraps of electrical tape over the bristles to keep them from spreading. It will expand slightly to 1/4”. I tried 1/4" dowel rod, but it wasn't very forgiving. The brush does a much better job.
