OK, I thought this would be fun since the std. class has been officially cancelled. I found this target at:
http://www.protargets.com/targets/points-4.gif
Here is how to challenge my score.
Std. class rules
25yds. target distance
10 rounds for a total possible score of 100 pts.
If any shot touches the black, it counts as 0 pts. (see the one I got in the 10 ring, it hit the black, and counts as 0).
Post your best target on this thread, and I can list the best scores on this post.
1st place - Habanero @ 81pts.
2nd place - 7624U @ 78pts.
3rd place - mrcosmos @ 63pts.
Good luck, and have fun!
Nice shooting Habanero, that looks like a fun target. I'm printing out a few as I type and hopefully I can get down to the range this afternoon and see how I do, I'll post the best out of the bunch no matter how embarrassing
Hope a few other folks here do the same!

Now that looks like an interesting target, and challenge. I may get beat this week end by 60% rain. I thought I posted before, but I guess the rain washed it away.
Had a chance to get out yesterday afternoon and do a little shooting... This is 1 fun target, I really had a ball trying to beat Habaneros 81!
Here's my best out of the 6 targets I shot,(78 pts.) not quite enough to beat habanero but I'm not done yet  I'll be printing a few more of these targets!!
Hey Trdslinger where you at? You need to try out that 10/22T with that new stock on this target!
Hi there !!
I dont own a 10/22, but i have a little question about them hits and the accuracy of it.
How come you have them poor hits ;) , i can shoot better from 25 yards with my .22 ruger P512 pistol :o
Im just curious :D
We're shooting for high score and any hit in the black sections counts as 0.. so you can't just shoot for the 10 ring.... Every time I tried to get em in closer I'd end up with 2 or 3 in the black :(
Shooting for bulls I can usually keep 3 out of 5 in a 1" circle from 25 yards with my 10/22 and it's a standard barrel w/iron sites...

Yes, this is not an ordinary target, so you are like extra careful not to try to hit the black, so its interesting.
I am glad some are participating. I thought this was a really fun target.
If anyone else finds a fun target, feel free to post a new thread, and we can do the same with other targets.
I think a dart board kind of target would be cool.
I also saw a cool military show where they had sharpshooters trying to hit a target with like 4 rows of 4 bulls on the page, and each was worth so many points, and they went from big to small, and if they missed one, then they scored a big fat 0 for that column. I think it was called "know your limits". That would be fun too.
There is no time limit on this target, so dont feel like you missed out if you cant get out in January!

This is kind of embarassing compared to the others, but I figure you guys don't know who I am, so I will go ahead. I am fairly new to shooting, and I bought my 10/22 so I could practice, and I am. I have been shooting 10 rounds a day at a target, and figured I would go ahead and try. I am shooting out the door of my walk in basement (the wife is at work ;) ), off a soft padded weight lifting bench using my Outers cleaning station as a rest. I know that's a pretty slick setup, and you guys are probably jealous, but I gotta use what I have to work with! I just have one question. At 25 yards, I can't make out much of the target, how did you shoot that good of groups? Thanks for the challenge habanero, and I will keep practicing!
Update from 02/12/04:
I installed a Power Customs match hammer and as you can see I can actually group now, and I bettered my previous score. I am still getting a flyer, and I am not sure if it is me or it seems like I remember reading something about the bolt after closing on the first round doesn't sit quite right. I have been doing some more shooting and the flyer isn't consistent, so I am beginning to suspect that is me. Thanks for all the encouragement!

Hey mrcosmos. Maybe practice doesn't make perfect, but it does make one better. You may have to shoot several targets to get the best one. You will improve, don't worry how you compare to someone else. Shoot against yourself, you will see improvement.
Maybe a couple of pointers: Try to shoot off something firmer than the soft work out bench, or even from the prone. I used to use a 4x4 with a homemade sandbag. Get your sight adjusted to shoot with the sight picture at 6:00 to the target. Shoot in the same spot for best group; adjust sight so the group is where you want it. When adjusting sights I use 3 shot groups, and use the center of the group to measure distance from the bulls eye. Once you have the sight adjusted, then be consistent in breath control, trigger squeeze, concentrate main focus on front sight blade, consistent cheek weld, consistent hand/cheek/shoulder pressure.
You will find some ammo will shoot a lot better in your rifle, than others. Find ammo your rifle likes best, and practice with that. I wouldn't use expensive match ammo either. Many rifles seem to like Winchester dynapoints, and its fairly cheep. You will just have to experiment.
That is a tough target to learn how on there are better ones that are more easily seen. If you are like me I had to get some glasses to see better.
Study basic marksmanship articles such as this.

Hey mrcosmos,
This is all for fun, and participation usually improves your personal shooting abilities, so thanks for taking the time to shoot and submit your target.
Cajungeo is right, this isnt really a good target to learn on, especially since it doesnt really have a noticable bullseye that is visible at 25yds open sights. Also, I have modified my gun, and shot off a very steady Caldwell Rock with sweet leather bags.
Before I came across this forum, I would get all happy about even hitting the paper at 25yds open sights, and now I am down to 5 shot groups at 25yds smaller than the size of a dime. What has made the difference for me is reading up on shooting (cajungeo has already given a good link), making modifications which improved accuracy and reliability, and getting out to the range more frequently with the expectation of shooting better each time, rather than just plowing through 200 rounds with no real direction.
So hang around for a while, ask questions, and you will probably see your shooting abilities improve too.

habanero, I will try to shoot at your target this weekend. Have been busy with the Marti Gras, Fat Tuesday, and putting a new roof on. I don't think I can see that little target without some help. I will post a 50 yd. with scope or maybe a 75-yd target just for grins & giggles.
Hi habanero and cajungeo I tried the target at 50 yds. with my scoped folder and managed 69 pts. That's a hard one, I'm going to pick up some Dynapoints this weekend and try again. I've been having so much fun with the mini-14 the 10/22 is feeling neglected. Keep 'em in the x-ring.

I missed my window. Was all set to go sat. A.M. when my left nose got an allergy. I sneezed, and sneezed. Used a whole box of Kleenex. I could hardly see. So will have to try it next weekend. Haven't had an attack like that since I left Calif.
Cajungeo don't say that........ I feel for ya man. There's some of that stuff blowing arround down here on this island to. Got in the Jeep the other day to run down and see if the surf was fishable and about halfway I took one of those sneezing fits as soon as I rolled the window down. I sneezed myself crosseyed, almost ran off the road. Finaly got in a parking lot and let it run its course. My sneezer must'a went off about a hundred times locked in full-auto. There wasn't a kleenex or a rag anywhere in that Jeep either, had to drive back to the motorhouse with that snotbox mess hanging all over me, I hate when that happens.
