View Full Version : broken decaping rod
I just broke the decaping rod on a set of 3006 rcbs dies
There was a screw in the case I have no idea how it got there
has this or something like it happened to any of uall and what caused it
but most important to me is where did you get the new rod

You can find new rods just about anywhere. Try this link

The best thing for decapping is a Lee decapping die, guaranteed to be unbreakeable, but it adds an extra step to the process.
As much as I hate WalMart I think they even carry them.

Been there - broke the pin not the rod, I ordered them from the manufacturer on-line. The pins were not a part of the rod in my case.

Call RCBS. Tell them what part(s) are bent/broken. Ask for some extra pins. Watch for the package to arrive within 2-3 days.
In the mean time, a decapping rod from another similar die will work, IE 308Win, 30-30 etc. Don't ask why I know these things.
If your dies are RCBS or Hornady, my experience has been that they will send you new parts free if you call them. Takes 2-4d days for them to arrive and you are back in business until the next time.
Don't ask how I know this!
I have broken my Lee a couple of times and they replaced for free.
