I have a Mossberg 500. The safety broke on it a few years back and now when I shoot it , the safety switch will randomly go to the safe position. I have had the safety replaced twice and three different gunsmiths say there is nothing wrong with the gun. I even had the last gunsmith put the heavey detent and metal switch on it. My hand isn't near the switch so its not me thats moving it, I've even held it down by my hip and watched the safety move back. It seems to happen when I shuck the shell out of the chamber.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds a little like a problem I had last year with a brand new out of the box Mossberg 20ga. Fast racking of the slide would push the safety just far enough to engage it. Tightening the srew didn't help and I didn't feel like sending it back to the factory. Finally I stripped it down myself and disassembled the safety. A little careful filing on the inside part of the safety, (the safety block, key #14 page 511 Numrich arms catalog 25) and now it doesn't engage unless the switch is pushed all the way on. Just don't file more than absolutely necessary and remember you tamper with it at your own risk. :usa: B)

Thanks!!! I'm going to give it a try. I have nothing to lose since I've already paid out $50.00 in gunsmithing, I even had another detent ball put in to make it stiffer, but it didn't help.
Thanks again
