I've got a rifle, and a guy with a FFL in FL. wants to buy it. I am in CA. I want to make sure I sell this to him legally. Can anyone who really knows how this is done tell me what to do or not do. I just like being on this side of the prison bars, and want it to stay that way!
Thanks

If I am not mistaken he needs to send you a copy a a signed FFL. You can verify it by calling the BATF but I don't have the number. It is not illegal to sell to somebody without an FFL. It is illegal to ship to a non FFL. How much did the mini go for?

Zydeco76,
I called BATF, and actually they don't do checks like that on FFLs. What they said to do is to make sure to have the certificate, and then ship the rifle through another FFL for the paper trail. Well, I went down to the local gun store, and ended up just trading the mini in for $400.00 towards the purchase of a 10/22T. All I ended up paying for is the background check and tax, and I think about $30.00. I was pleased, as I really hated the mini. Yeah, I lost a little money, but I really just hated the mini. I had a friend that wanted to buy it, but I would have felt bad selling it to him.
Hey Trdslinger,
I too am suddenly thinking about trading in my Mini 30. I've done a lot of work on it but quite frankly it wouldn't be the rifle I'd take if the SHTF. I recently shot it again trying to qualify for "Fred's" rifleman status. I was using different ammo and was a couple of points shy. I know my shooting has improved so I thought maybe it was my scope. I benched the rifle and guess what. My groups have opened back up to 5". Most likely, its the result in the change of ammo but given all of the other problems such as mags, barrel heat, etc its beginning to get disappointing. I've always shot Fred's AQT with it so maybe I'll try my FAL. If I qualify with that the mini is gone. I've shot a national match M1A recently and am completely sold on it. It even felt better than my FAL. So if I can trade the mini in for it I might just do it. I have too many other project guns to work on. Maybe I'll trade them all in.
