If you guys haven't checked out the CMP rifles list at the CMP web site, nows the time! It seems they have all four manufacturers availble now and also the Danish models with the VAR barrels are back. If you have never bought one, nows the time for a piece of history! :usa: Perfect timing for Veterans day and Christmas!!

When I purchased a Garand this last summer, it took about 5 1/2 weeks for it's arrival. From the first week on my ears perked up every time I heard a truck rattle by on the street. When it did arrive I was estatic!! Love at first sight. Didn't waste any time in getting to the range and plugging some rounds thru it. I hope to purchase a danish w/ var barrel at the first of the year.

Well I picked up my rifle yesterday! I'm not wasting any time getting it cleaned up. I guess the stock is going to take the longest. I'll be sure to post some pic's when it done!

I'm not sure if you can see this but the and guards are walnut and the stock is (I believe) birch. Its really noticable in person. I might get a use walnut stock from Fulton Armory just to match everything.

Great looking Garand! The stock appears to be in very good shaped, the whole rifle in excellent shape. How does it shoot?

It did not start out that way, I should have took some before and after pics. I stripped and steamed the stock and hand gaurds smoothed them out and put a new tung oil finish on them. I haven't got to the range to shoot it as of yet. When I took the pics the stock was still tacky with tung oil. I just could not wait to get it back together.

I just posted my boy with his cousin's in the Gallery. I have done nothing to the stock, just left everything like it was when it was stored away, but it is a great shooter. Let us know how it functions  The only problem with mine was cases sticking in the chamber but a .45 brush and some clp took care of that. :D

That is walnut on the pictured rifle. You can see it in the grain. It is a very nice looking rifle now. I think if the bore is even close to the way the stock looks it will be a fine shooter. While I have your attention please give mine a look. I bought it about 18 years ago for $72.50 and I think I got a pretty good deal from the DCM. Now known as the CMP. My Garand Pictures (I hate to disagree with Bluesteelinwood but take a look at the rifle that the DCM sent me about 18 years ago. I have never added anything to the rifle and even the match sights where on it when they sent it for $72.50. [url=http://groups.msn.com/SecondAmendmentfriendswithguns-/mygarand.msnw)

What a grand Garand you have  Hardly looks like a rifle that drove the Huns across the Rhine B)

The CMP just got 10,000 more rifles in as well.........and hopefully the Greek ones, when they become available in the near future, will be decent as well.

I am hoping that there will be some French ones also, they would be like new :D Maybe a little dirty from being tossed on the ground when they lifted their hands in the French salute

Made an ammo run to CMP north two weeks ago. Man, it was hard to leave without a new old rifle. The racks were full and they had just about everything available. Can't wait for my next trip down! Be there in August for the Nationals for sure.

They are putting out the collector's grade now so if you want one better buy it soon, only the SA and HRA are available. :cannon:

My mistake, they are accepting orders only for the HRA (in collector's grade)at this time. :(
