Greetings Morpheus- very unique Mini14 you have there. I think the rail mounted to the underside of the forestock with bipod attached looks good. Perhaps you could list all of your modifications. Also welcome to the site. :D :usa:

OK the run down of what i did to it so far......
1)muzzle break with sight attached (have to remove old sight) -its gone now and a smith muzzle brake is in its place which looks like it will function better.
2)made my barrel look like a bull barrel between the gas block and the smith brake by sliding some 9/16" inside diameter steel pipe (home depot) over the barrel and using some copper pipe to fill the small gap-works very good i think it should help keep the barrel from whipping alittle and looks better now.
3) well since i now had no front sight all together i welded a new one on the top gas block and jb welded a fiber optic piece on the sight and it looks/works great!
4)made a smaller gas block bushing myself using a 3/16" diameter steel rod (home depot) and a 1/16" drill bit and has worked great for over 500rnds so far.
5)went to Walmart and found the vaccumes and bought a 5/8" wide by about 3/16" thick belt which fits perfectly on the lower gas block between the block and the operating rod(hated that metal to metal pounding!!) and has worked without any degredation that i can see for 500rnds.
6)new pistol grip/thumbhole stock(love em)
7) aluminum weaver style rail for an AR (it isnt flat its on an angle but fits the profile of the stock nicely)
8)heavy duty cast bipod for an AR
9)buffer tech poly buffer between the operating rod and reciever(it was too thick but 2 minutes later it fit nicely)
10)aluminum scope mount with the round knob style(have found that it can work loose alittle so i check it after about 60-80 rnds)
11) 2.5-10 power scope
12) made a cheek rest to get proper cheek weld and i put some black foam insulating tape on it to its nice and soft now

i havent done and real accuracy testing yet because its deer season(bow then shotgun) so maybe in the spring i can do that. the only shooting i have done was with surplus type ammo and it was looking nice maybe about 3" groups so with better ammo who knows.the only problem i have had with this rifle was that there was alittle roughness on the underside of the bolt from casting that was causing cycling problems when in contact with the top of the hammer so being in a field shooting i solved that by lubing it up alot and it worked fine-i smoothed it out when i got home. i like this thing alot- its extremely rugged and low maintanance(un-like some other rifles chambered in .223 i have shot) i will definately never let it go and have to get more pics of the new barrel/brake mods. the only thing that i have done to it bad was use regular spray paint on the upper gas block after i welded the new sight on and i got trigger happy and i almost spontaneously combusted the spray paint it was bubbling and smoking really bad i couldnt see outa my scope hehe so now theres high temp car engine paint on it and i HOPE that solves that problem.
web sites i got my stuff from: Cheaperthandirt.com Sportsmansguide.com Deltaforce.com

I love to see new pics :D

Welcome to the forum Morpheus. Looks like you've done a lot of work on your mini. Good job. Have you tried some Loctite blue (medium hold) on your scope mount? It may keep it from working loose.

I can tell by you using the vacuum cleaner belt that you have done your homework. ;)

Hi Morpheus-thats kinda funny. You were ansering while I was asking. Anyway thanks for posting all your cool mods. I do have one question concerning how you decreased the thickness of you BufferTech recoil buffer. I have found mine to be too thick for my mini as well. If I could plane it somehow to about half the thickness it is. I think it would work just fine in my mini. Thank you in advance and I look forward to some more pics of your updated mini. :D :usa:

hey pdaddy- instead of making a weaver rail( unless you have the machining skills or $$ to have someone do it) one on the web sites i listed up top had an aluminum rail thats about 16" long for less than $20 i think the only catch for you is that one end is thicker than the other but if you dont mind that then you can even tig weld the rail and your stock together(both aluminum) or make it a quick connect er something. do you have pics of your home made stock?
swill269- i have put a wee bit of time and too much money into it hehe this is one addicting rifle!
cajungeo- i did put loctite on it and that got knocked loose so i just tightened it down real good and thought i was gunna strip it (bad thing) yea i read about the vaccume cleaner belt and thought for a few $$ i could try it and glad i did the action is extremely quiet compaired to a non double buffered mini. the only noise from the action thats made is from the bolt locking/ unlocking.
ralrein1- well if you got the polyurathane reciever to op rod bushing then like me i was thinking how an i gunna thin this thing down than bam it came to me. first find some metal about 1/2 to 2/3 the thickness of the buffer-you will need two pieces, second lay each piece of metal down on either side of the buffer to make kinda of a " H " shape(with the buffer in the middle), third find a piece of thin sheet metal thats wide enough to "glide" over the outer metal guides that control how thick you cut, third grab the sheet metal with some pliers and heat that sucker up til it glows red, forth melt a layer off the top and by using the metal pieces next to the poly bushing as a depth guide and when you get the layer off let everything cool off really good then go back with some scissors and trim the excess off. its really easy and make sure your in a well ventilated area too!

;)
that buffer thining technique is great! i do not know if i need to thin yet but i was worrying about it. :( i can't shoot up the woods til deer season is over. i'll find out then
thanx!

The top pic is of my Mini-14 and 10/22 with 1000rnds. of ammo for each and a 40mm grenade vest that I modified to accomidate 10rnd banana mags for the 10/22 and the vest holds 20 mags (and people say i make them nervous). and the bottom pic is of my Reminton 870 for deer, Mini-14, 10/22, Mossberg 835, and an old Stevens 16 guage. :usa:

hey guys/girls! I cant stop messing with this rifle hehe. Here are some newer pics of what it looks like. i took off the front sight and welded a blade on the gas block and epoxied a fiber optic piece on it so i still have manual sights and i have a new compensator/muzzle break that i like better than the last one. Now i just have to wait til school is over so i can go shooting! They are crappy pics cuz of a cheap cam but you get the idea. Maybe i will post some better ones sometime soon.

I love the barrel sleeve idea. Looks cool, and probably works much better than the Eagle barrel shroud thing. I've been thinking of slipping a piece of perforated aluminum conduit over my barrel to hopefully help with the cooling and maybe even help with my groups. Just need to get the thing fitted on. :ar15:
