Howdy guys. I plan on replacing the stock and forend on my 870 with a synthetic version. I'v never taken my shotgun apart and I was hoping someone could enlighten me on how to get the stock and forend off and installing the new synthetic version. Thanks alot. -Steve
Remove the butt plate/recoil pad and you should see a fastener that secures the stock to the receiver. The forearm should be secured to the rails by fasteners. When you mount the new stock you should pattern the gun and use foil or a similar material to shim the stock so the majority of your pattern is above the bead. You can go to the Remington site and get a manual. Brownells or Numrich Arms should have parts diagrams that will illustrate the fasteners and their positions. I am thinking of buying an 870 and reworking it instead of laying out the money Remington wants for a Marine Magnum. Good luck.
Here is a link to Remington Site for the stock removal tool. Hope this helps.
