It was sufficiently difficult to get everything *just right* that I wrote it up as I was completing the work, because I thought I would forget several of the tricks I learned if it was a year or more before I had to do it again. (It's much easier to describe while you have everything apart and are actually doing it. Hindsight leaves out important information.) And I figured I wanted to be able to help out others, and possibly help Gunsmoke update their writeup.

Off-topic: Help! Anyone know anything or have any source of information about an old Remington Model 24 takedown .22 LR semiautomatic? This is a 1922 Browning design (also sold as a Browning) with a tube-feed through the butt and a bottom eject from a bold accessed from the bottom of the receiver. I just got one, and am rebuilding it without knowing what I'm doing .... (PM me or write to cw2go@yahoo.com)

I have a model 24 also. I am in the process of restoring it. I have just got the stock in the mail. Beautiful, Its great American gunstocks #3 fancy black walnut and cost 228 including shipping. It is much less finished than I thought. It is my first new stock from a semi inleted blank. It is also my first full restore. I have done modifications and refinished stocks before. I am doing the metal work except for the bluing, which I intend to have done by a gunsmith. It is taking a long time to get the pits out without destroying the lines. I also plan to replace every spring that I can get and as many of the screws as I can find. It was in pretty rough shape but I only paid $100. Mine was made in 1927. It will take me a while I am afraid to use power tools so I am going very slowly.
I’ll try to attach one of my before Pics. Let me know how you are doing.

Sorry guys, I'm moving the off topic to the Finish section, but will leave a redirect.
