Do any of you use a Dillon press? It seems that most of you don't.
I wanted to use a Lyman M die on my 550, but I guess I can't. Then
I was told the Lee Factory Crimp Die doesn't work on a Dillon. Then
it was suggested to me to put the lock ring UNDER the toolhead. Would
any of you mind clearing this up for me.

Here is the place to be if you use blue reloading equipment!

I have been reloading on a Dillon 550 for well over 8 years and I love it.

If you want to use a Lyman M die you can as long as the die threads are 7/8- 14 (M die is an expander die right?) If you do use the M die then you will not be able to use the Dillon powder measure, then what you would have basicly a single stage press.

As for the Lee FC die, sometimes the die has to be set very low in the Dillon tool head to give the proper crimp. As Lee die bodys are rather short, the locking ring on the die doesn't have any threads to lock onto. By putting the locking ring on the bottom of the tool head, you can turn the Lee die down farther for proper crimp and still lock it in place.

I use a Lee FC die for 2 of my caliber tool heads (.223 and .308) After setting them up, I have never had a problem.

I use a Dillon 550B. The older Lee dies had short bodies and were hard to use in a Dillon toolhead, which is why I bought Dillon dies. Lee has since come out with dies that have longer bodies. I have used Lee factory crimp dies in my Dillon without any problems.
