What do you use to fill a shooting bag? How full do you fill it?

I ordered a sissy bag from Natchez; it is very similar to bag rests that were available at a 22LR shoot last March. The bag arrived empty. (Makes sense in hind sight, but there were no suggestions, instructions, hints etc.)

I have used a sissy bag as a pistol rest last year at a 22LR shoot which is why I went with that particular type for my purchase. Very utilitarian.

I used kitty litter to fill my bags. Rice also works well. I filled it pretty full, but there is still enough play in the bag for the rifle to snuggle down and rest in the bags. Happy shooting -Carnifex :sniper:

Try the stuff you use in Tumblers. It works just as well as sand, rice, etc without the weight.

Tumbling Medium, often corn cobb .. most importantly it doesn't absorb and hold moisture like rice or sand

Yeah or cat litter. I mean, think about what that stuff is for...

Guys-
Call me crazy, but I prefer lead shot in my shooting bags. Yeah, it makes them heavy(I have one that weighs 22 lbs.!!), but they are extremely stable. Just my .o2$.

P-S- They def. won't absorb water!!

When you say sissy bag are you talking about a padded bag that you use between your shoulder and the buttstock? Or are you talking about a bag to rest your rifle on... If it is the latter I am with 2 rangers I use leadshot mixed with heavy zircon sand to fill all of my shooting bags... My front rest weighs almost 50lbs and my rear sand bag weights upwards of 20lbs. If you do want something light weight the stuff that they use in bean bag chairs works really well....
