I know of an M-1 Garand Tanker that I have just found out is for sale. Its in .308 caliber. Its also in great condition 95-98%. Made in the early 90s. I think the price is around $995.00. If anyone is interested contact me privately and I'll get some pictures for you. I think it would be a great shooter or collector! Will be glad to sell through an FFL dealer or if in Alabama arange for pick up.

995.00 seems expensive regardless of condition. i paid 600 dollars for mine in 99% condition about two years ago.

You can buy a brand new Springfield Garand for less than $995 besides the tankers are normally rewelds and the parts are bastard size. The rifles are lucky to achieve a 6" group at a hundred yards. Shooting the rifle is only throwing lead down range at the expense of the guy next to you because the mussel blast is horrendous. Sorry, I have observed all of this. :2guns:

I don't know about others, but I have a .308 Tanker from Survival Arms, built on a SA receiver, with a new AO barrel. When I sling up & go prone, with good ammo, it is a minute of angle rifle. If something serious ever happens, this is what I'm grabbing. Otherwise, I just enjoy it at the range, and it is definitely going hunting someday. :usa:
That price is way excessive, unless you are getting one built by Smith, Fulton, or some other serious and competent M1 Armorer. Those can be really fine rifles -- I'd love to have one. But most are thrown together crap and highly unreliable.
If you get a reweld or one of the poorly constructed rifles, it is a jam-o-matic at best and at worst, a parts rifle with a throw-away receiver. It is a real buyer-beware situation. I found one at a shop and the op rod derailed with the first stroke.
I think Arlington Arsenal (?) had a bunch in Shotgun News with new barrels for $369 a few years ago. At that price, if the receiver wasn't pitted or rewelded, it would be worth considering, and I'd factor in a few hundred for a good smith to make it reliable. If you want to spend a grand, look for a BM-59 with a straight (ONLY) op rod. Those will usually feed reliably.
