Did you paint that stock green or does it come in that colour?
Thanks

Looks like you painted them all hey? What paint did you use to paint that stock?
/D

boogeyman
08-20-2003, 15:34
D, I painted the stock with a textured outdoor furniture paint. It holds up well to heat and is durable.Pdaddy, I posted pics of the break in the accurizing forum ;) As for the stock, it's a tad to long and causes a mild eye relief problem.Glad you like the family! :sniper:

08-22-2003, 13:54
Hey boogyman. Thats a nice family you have there. I can see the family similarity. That looks like a serious muzzle brake.

Course I guess you already know the eye relief problem will be less on the lower power setting. I can see its adjusted all the way rearward.

boogeyman
08-22-2003, 14:24
Thanks I went for the green motif :ar15: The brake does work rather well, i'll slap the bushings in when next week when they get here for some serious recoil reduction. I need a set of rings moves the scope back like an inch of so and a check rest form a synthetic dragunov stock.

And the BIG question how does it shoot ???

Hey there Boogieman-nice lookin mini you've got there. I like the break. It must push the blast forward w/those linear holes in it. How does she shoot? :D :usa:

boogeyman
08-25-2003, 18:06
Shoots great! just a little rise out of it. If I could throw a crappy mpeg vid on here I would show you guys how little it come up. The 4 linear ports do push you a little, but with the ASI(Great people BTW) bushing set on it's way 2nd day air I'll cut that down alittle. It shot 2" @ 50 with white box winchesters after sighting in.......then I ran out of ammo :( Pics of the muzzle w/o brake tomorrow.

What kind of cheek rest is that? Did you have to primer the stock before painting it?

boogeyman
10-21-2003, 07:49
Dogman, it is an ATI SKS cheek rest. They generally go for 12-15 bucks or so. I have yet to cut the tabs off the sides of the thing and drill the top for hight adj hardware. I'm devoting to much time to the SAR1 that has become the current fav. I love the hungarian 20 rounder tanker mags and kobra collimator sight I just got. :ar15: :rapid:

Dogman1
10-21-2003, 17:24
How do you like that SAR1??? I pick mine up on Thurs!

Bam Bam
10-21-2003, 23:39
Boogeyman, how did the bushings effect recoil or muzzle rise? I installed Mike's mid-size bushing and buffer. I already have good brake on gun, so change was not dramatic, cept for ejection of cases, bout 5 feet instead of 25 feet. Also I was using 7x scope at targets 50 yards off, so it's gonna jump around no matter what, I guess.

boogeyman
10-22-2003, 07:46
Dogman, I love it! I just slapped a kobra sight on it along with a M249 saw grip from tapco. I can shoot from 50-300 yards, oh the fun! I am devloping trigger slap now but the FGC will be replaced with a redstar arms improved group. Tapco also offers a combo where you can get the us made piston saw grip gordon tech 3.5-4lb trigger for 59$, worth looking into. You would need the single hook version FWI ;) In the same order as the grip I snagged hungarian 20round tanker mags for 6$, the are brand new even though they say "some finish may be worn" They fit great and really balance the rifle out some. Have fun with it! I'll post pics later of the mags, grip and sight on it

As for the bushings, when it would cycle it was not a huge improvment.......My kit came from ASI, I installed the .050 first and it would not strip a new shell even though it spit the other one out. Then on to the .040, this would only let the bolt/op rod move a 1/4 of an inch making it a manual loader. Keep in mind there is a very effictive bake on there and a wolff Xtra power main spring in there.I'm thinking about going back to the stock spring and trying the bushings again. Also trying more loads with various combos of spring and bushing. A minis work is never done(unless you send it to ASI  )

[B] Hey were did you get that Muzzle Brake? I've been think'n about welding an AR-15 type muzzle brake on my mini-30!

RJSIXGUN
11-17-2003, 21:17
You seem to have had the same idea thats been bug'n me for weeks. What I want to do is take a standard M-16 Bird Cage Brake, ream it out to the outside diameter of my Mini-30, then weld it in place aganst the front site. This way the barrel does not need to be threaded.

boogeyman
11-18-2003, 09:00
I have no idea where to get another brake like that. I keep forgeting to get the patent no to track down the manufacter. I bought it from a little shop near me. The little that I do know is it's a Mill Brake made by DTA.

The A2 hider is a cool idea for the mini30 ;) I'm going to see if I can get a A2 hider w/ threads to match my muzle. You can try Kurts Kustom Firearms (http://www.kurtskustomfirearms.citymax.com) Kurt has many cool brakes that he makes in house. I'm sure he could provide you with a brake in the dia you need.

05-24-2004, 13:39
Ok, how'd you do the tele butt stock??? Nice!!! :D How does it work cheek weld wise? Did I say that looked sweet? Is your's funtional or fixed. Man that's slick!

My preban mini has been asking and asking for one of those. ;)

later,
scruffy

boogeyman
05-24-2004, 13:57
Thanks Scruffy, I cut the old stock off w/ cordless saw then shaved the nub down to fit ID of the stock(alum tube). I got so sick of rasping the plastic off I took a mapps gas torch to the alum tube for 5 minutes and pushed it on  . A day or 2 later i took it back off to square it up and secure it right using epoxy and screws.
The cheek weld is not bad, I could get it up in time to smoke a fox running in a field. The biggest plus is I can adjust for the damn short eye reilef of the scope.

scruffy
05-24-2004, 14:08
Well, I now have an item to get at the next show!!! Tele ar stock and mini stock of some kind. I like the idea of the tele so I can have it adjusted one way for the bench and shooting off hand, but then shorten for when I'm sitting calling up the yotes. I'm just using the irons right now so it looks like it should work fine cheek wise. Sweet!!!!

Boogeyman that's a cool mod !!! I've thought about doing something like that with my ButlerCreek Folder. When the folding arm is taken off the mount and the square'ish mount is removed it would'nt be hard to southern enginer a suitable attachment for the M4 telescopic butt peice. I've just got too many things in front of it, so many mods to do .............. so little time. Good look'n rig !!!

boogeyman, my hat is off to you. There are a lot of modified 'messes' out there that just don't come out right. But not this one.

That is seriously cool!

Every one thanks for you thoughts on my baby ;) First I think the addons are bout' done  . A barrel strut and bedding are the only things to work on, oh yea it's getting a good 40-45mm red dot also.

As for the attention paid to the mini, my OL' lady (of 9 years) is very supportive of my addiction......facination....... and obsession with the mini...THANK GOD!!!!

Kestryl the rail is a cheap as hell gunshow pick up for 14$ w/ grip. It is designed for a AR forend, so I recessed the mouting hardware with a wood butterflybit under the metal sheild tightened them up and called it a day B)

MetalDoc, Let me know if I owe you aa new keyboard   FYI, the ideas come to me outta nowhere, like visions from the Mini god

RedBeard, If it wouldn't cost me 2-3K I would. I'm sure someone will copy it, but we will know where it really came from

scruffy
06-11-2004, 06:37
Hey, how about some iron sights for that baby! I think the factory front sight would be too short to work with the amega mount, but maybe a flip up AR sight on the front of the rail. Then, with the front sight elevated a bit higher than factory, probably higher than an m1 carbine sight can reach I'd get a weigand base (either weaver or picatinny design) and mount an AR flip up rear sight. If you didn't like the full weigand base on there you could cut off the front 3/4ths and just have a short rail mounted on the rear reciever scope lug with the sight on it.

Just an idea...

Scruffy, I think your on to something there  That will have to wait till fall. I have to save some $$$ for the slower parts of the summer if they come. I have thoughts of the BUIS front sight w/ matching rear! Gotta hand it to you ;) I might not thought of that till I had the M1 sight on  . On the other hand my wallet says <_<

Just wanted to say VERY NICE MINI!! So what kinda groups you getting with that rig? You did a nice job on the whole thing, i remember when this post was on page one, haha.

I did have a few questions. What kinda rail is that? And is htat a rail you screwed on top of the bottom rail? If so what kinda rail is that one also (the picture with the AR sights, the middle rail peice). Again nice work!

Charles in GA.

boogeyman
02-13-2005, 17:28
Charles, the top rail is an Amegaranges (http://www.Amegaranges.com) mount . I think if I were to buy one again I would go with a Ultimak version because of the 1913 style slots that offer more options of scope mounting and it sits lower to the reciever. The rail that is attatched to the Amgea is a john masen XTA riser, they go for 20-25$.

As for the groups not sure yet, when sighting in took a dumper I put the Mini down and picked up the AK

Hey Greybear. good luck with yours.Looking foward to pics.

DrMaxit
02-13-2005, 19:40
Thanks for the reply. I think ill go for the rail you have soley on the fact of the two add-on rails for lights and things on the side. How much and what kind is that red dot? I'm looking for one kinda like it without the "Aimpoint" price. Thanks again

Charles

boogeyman
02-15-2005, 09:11
There is a sweet Aimpoint look-a-like called the tacpoint. Looks just like the real thing for 109$ or around there. I'm pretty sure thats how I'm gonna go. The redot is a simmons 30mm and goes for 40$.

Tried to read all the mail on this one but may have missed it. What do you have on the front of the barrel? Where did you get it? Was it difficult to install? Your help is appreciated.

02-17-2005, 14:18
Hi, that is a Ruger GB (Goverment Barrel) flash hider and it requires the threading of your muzzle to 9/16X24 threads. You can sometimes find them going for 60-75$, I paid 60 shipped for the SS version cause thats all he had ;)

I had a smith do the work and had to wait 3 months if I remember right to get it back so I got a good deal on the work(and a free box of blackhills ammo   )

BTW, try Sturmgewehr.com (http://www.sturmgewehr.com) in the partsd and accessories market
