Anyone have any experience with the 125gr ballistic tipl? I loaded a batch of 308 to 2900 fps to start and have been disappointed with the results (accuracy and performance). Is 2900 fps fast enough to get reliable performance at ranges under 300yds?

Dvd, if they're not shooting as you'd like, it could come due to a number of reasons, but velocity won't likely be among them. Is this in a .308 Win.? What rifle are you shooting? Barrel length? Is the rifle completely off the rack or has anything been done to it, like glass bedding or a trigger job? What load are you shooting? Powder/primer/overall length????

Tell us more. Otherwise, we're just stabbing at your question in the dark.

Not much more to tell. It's a 308, Remmy 700BDL with a 5R barrel. Don't have a chrony but Alliant says R15 should push them about 2900fps with the charge I used. They group better out of a hot barrel and this is the only load for this gun that behaves that way (so far). (Hot barrel kind of problematic when hunting groundhogs, at least where I hunt.)

I posted on another site and a member responded saying he had expansion problems using Nosler green tips on kangaroos. I think it is the bullet and I will just go back to Hornady 110gr VMax as I know they expand well and shoot much better than the Nosler in my rifle.

Neighbor has had good results on deer with them (125 BT's), he is using a Rem 700 also, with W748 powder.
The Nosler #5 manual shows W748 as the most accurate powder (47.5-51.5gr), and 51.5 as the most accurate charge of that powder (3214fps from a 24" Lija barrel BTW)

:o
they might want to go faster, like 3200 fps.
i used 125 gr spitzer over 50.5 ww748.
the longer cased and longer barreled 30-06 liked ww760 better.
i think you will find this bullet loves to go fast, get it up there with .223, 55,fmj, speeds. see if it does not come around.
good luck!

[FONT=Times][SIZE=7][COLOR=blue]used these in a 30-06 and worked great, I agree with the others these bullets shoot better when pushed just watch for signs of pressure. Just my 2 cent worth. Swanky :sniper:

Typically,
Ball powders like W748 are the best bet for lighter bullets in .308Win.
