Greetings to everyone-My apologies to the managment if this does not belong here, but I felt it would get the most attention here{this seems to b the most popular sectons of P.U.}We all have a great big problem with Two{2}new bills being introduced to the Senate & The House of Reps. The senate bill is S.1034 & the house bill is H.R.2038.Both of these bills will extend the amount of guns being currently banned by an alarming amount! This will include the Mini-14 & 30,The M1a/m14,M1 Garand,Ar-10's & Ar-15's.As well as seni-auto shotguns,semi-auto pistols oh yeah and the Ruger 10/22.Pretty much any "fun-gun" you can think of as well as FAL's.G3's-Cetme's name it,it's on the list!!!!!I cannot emphasize enuff how important it is for ALL OF US to write our Congressmen & Senators also E-mail too. However nothing gets their attention more than HAND WRITING A LETTER!You can find they're address in your local phone book. The time to act is now!!!!To all who have acted already---THANK-YOU.To those who haven't-you need to get writing.Remember your not writing these letters for me or all the other guys who have asked before me.Your writing for YOURSELF! Good luck to us all! :usa: :

Hi there AZTOY, hows things going? I have received one e-mail response from my Senator, she's a Democrate{liberal}it was very neutral. To me that's same as a supporter of the A.W.ban. However my Congressman {Republican} wrote a very promising response. It goes like this-----Thank you for contacting me regarding gun control policy. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter. Like you, I believe law-abiding citizens should maintain their Constitutional right to own firearms. I feel that regardless of how strictly we write our laws, Criminals will always be able to aquire deadly weapons. Rather than imposing more gun control laws so Congress can appear to be proactive on a sensitive issue, I support increased criminal sentencing and better enforcement of existing laws as the best long-term ansewers to the problem of crime in America. I will continue to oppose new gun control measures and will support legislation that restores our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Again, I appreciate hearing from you. Should you have any further concers on this or any other federal matter of importance to you, Please do not hesitate to contact me. As I said, promising, but he did not come right out and mention the A.W.Ban by name or the new{improved}A.W.Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2003/04{H.R.2038} so I'm writing him a letter that FLAT-OUT askes him his views on these two hanous bills. I'll let you'all know what it says when I get it. Take care you'all and KEEP UP THE FIGHT!!!! :D :usa:

Greetings to AZToy & everyone else- Well I got a response today from my second much more direct letter to my congresscritter. I must say it is much more vague, than my first response letter!? It goes like this- Thank-you for your further comments concerning gun control policy. I sincerely appreciate your valuble input on this matter. Please know that I will continue to monitor this important issue and will certainly keep your views in mind when it comes to a vote in the House of Representatives. Again, thank you for writing. Blah, Blah, Blah. I must say- this obviously was ansewerd by an aid. As I really did'nt express views like my first letter. I flat out, point blank asked him how he feels and plans to vote on both upcoming A.W.Bans. This is disheartning to say the least. As more responses come I'll post them. I'm not giving up!!!!! :) :usa:
Here is a chance to be heard, take advantage if you get an opportunity:
Remember, the congressional Summer District Work Period is winding down, but will continue until early next month. For the remainder of this time, your Senators and Representative will be back in their respective home states and districts. Many lawmakers are using this time to hold town hall meetings, where they report on what they`ve been doing in Washington, and take questions from their constituents. These meetings offer a tremendous opportunity for you to personally voice your strong support for the Senate reckless lawsuit prohibition bill ( S. 659), and your staunch opposition to legislation that seeks to reauthorize and expand the 1994 Clinton gun ban ( S. 1034, S. 1431, and H.R. 2038). Please contact your lawmakers` district offices and ask when they are holding their remaining town hall meetings. If you do not know the number for your lawmakers` district offices, you can use the "Write Your Representatives" tool at www.NRAILA.org, or call the NRA-ILA Grassroots Division at (800) 392-8683.

Well I did it today. I called two of my friends anti-gun gun owners. They looked at me like cows staring at a passing train. After a few seconds one of them said "what does that mean?" I explained to him that these are gun owners who want to do nothing to protect their second ammendment rights. By joining the NRA or their states Pistol & Rifle association, Or by writing letters to their Senators & Congressmen. Then I asked both of my friends if they even knew who their Sen. & Cong. where. Defaning silence.......then came a "no". I was stunned, these two individuals one 38 the other 36 years old {grown men} had no idea. After I explained the gravity of the current situation to them{H.R.2038,S.1034 & S.1431} I could see the light bulb slowly growing brighter! Then the two of them asked me to help them write & compose letters to their representitives. :D Eureka-I've recruited two more in the fight for our rights. So the battle rages on! :D :usa:
They will never get mine. If it passes and the existing ones are not grandfathered in then they are getting cached. along with many rounds of ammo. Im sure there will be many riots and death threats to the ones who passed it.

That's nice Half moa- But what are you and your shooting buddies doing about it. It's easy to stand up and shout"they'll never get mine".Lets just hope and work for it, by writing our reps & senators. Tell them your against-congress bill H.R.2038 and tell your senators you are against sen bill S.1431 & S.1034. It is also a good idea to write the President. It's easy to stand back and let others do this but a true American will do these{letters&phone calls}things himself!!!!!! :usa:
I would love to write letter ralien but i dont think they would even consider taking a 14 year old's oppinion. But i will try I am sorry from now on i am going to try my best to write letters.
Goeth27
Those morons won't know you are 14; in fact the only time they will care anything at all about you is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November when they want your vote. If you do write be prepared to receive the politicians' version of spam - campaign contribution solicitations from them, their friends, and the Party.

Goeth27-you sound like a pretty level headed young man to me. :) Don't worry about spam. You just go ahead and write those letters.......and as a fellow firearm owner and military vet. I'm proud to hear you say that you will try! Let me know what they say when you get your replies. By the way anyone on this site from the great state of Arizona!?! I would like to know.....who has written a letter to Sen John McCain reguarding how he is going to vote on the "94"AWBan as well as the 2003 A.W.Ban. Please let me know. Come on you Arizona guys-you can do it! :usa:
Would this be a suitable sample letter to send to a govenor? i dont have too much time with home work and everything to write up my own
[Date]
[Recipient's Name and Address]
Dear [Senator or Representative],
I am writing regarding an upcoming matter that is of the utmost importance to me and the many other gun owners in our state... allowing the 1994 “Assault Weapons” Ban to sunset in 2004 without renewal. As was stated in a DOJ study on the effects of the ban released in 1999, a significant impact on gun related crime as a result of the ban was not seen nor expected, given the fact that “assault weapons” were only very rarely used in crime.
Targeting a certain group of firearms based on cosmetic and ergonomic features that have no impact whatsoever on the weapons’ lethality simply does not make sense to me.
As there has been no substantive evidence presented that it has had any significant effect on reducing crime, and as it represents a serious infringement on Second Amendment rights that has produced no worthwhile public safety benefit, I respectfully urge you to oppose any effort to renew the ban.
I would appreciate a reply from you to learn your position on this very important issue.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Looks good to me, but send it to your congressmen, not your governor. If you aren't sure who they are, go to http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm and type in your ZIP code. You'll get their names and addresses.

Yes Goeth27- that is an OUTSTANDING letter, however you should send it to your Congressman. The 1994 Ban is stated correctly. You might want to state that you are against the new ban (H.R.2038) as well. Other than that it looks good to me. :) Now with reguards to your Senators, you'll just have to tweak your letter a little bit. Tell your Senators that you are against senate bills S.1431 & S.1034 as these are two senate "assault weapons ban" bills currently up for vote. If you need more info on the bills, go to NRA-ILA.com- there you can also find your reps mailing addresses. Another exellent site for info and sample letter is awbansunset.com I highly recommend this site. :usa:
Lookin good. The letter should go to your US Representative, and your two US Senators. If you have the time send it to Bush as well as he has indicated he will sign an extension of the AW ban if passed.

Hello Goeth27- I was wondering, did you get a response to your fine letter? It's been some time now since your last post on this subject. Remember YOU ALL out there need to still be writing letters and phone calling your Senators and Congressmen. We cannot afford to get lazy. Now is the time to act or it may be too late!!!!! I sincerly hope by this time next year all of our efforts will have paid off! There by allowing each and every one of us the luxery of buying any firearm we want. Think about it!!!!!THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!!!!!!!

Only one problem...
The NRA is a sellout organization. The proof is everywhere. Please join the Gun Owners of America and send them your money, instead. The NRA brass LIKES gun control... I have experienced this firsthand as an activist in CA during the AWB there in 1989/1990. See the other thread on this forum about the current NRA sellout that may disarm you HERE and NOW.

Explain to me exactly how the NRA - with a trigger happy clown like Charlton Heston as president - is pro gun control?
What really needs to happen is that gun owners like you and myself need to define what is meant in the second amendment as "arms". This is pretty vague since as Michael Moore in Bowling for Columbine points out arms could mean anything from a baseball bat to a hydrogen bomb. My personal take on the 2nd amendment is that it's a last resort measure for individual citizens to protect themselves from a tyrannical cabal within our gov't which ignores the constitution in prusuit of their goals and desires. And as such american citizens should be allowed to own guns designed to engage and kill human beings. Whether a politician likes that or not and manages to convince a bunch of people otherwise with lies and rhetoric is immaterial. However as the absurd Michael Moore example points out there are weapons no one would want an individual citizen to own like a-bombs (if that damn dog of yours pees on my lawn again i'll vaporize the both of you!). So we the people have to sort this out and I think its up to us gun owners to do this. Reply and let me know what your opinions are on freedoms vs. weapons control for individual safety

Greetings AC Pilot and AR15 Fan.... I was disturbed by the sell-out of the NRA, in reading the post you mention AC Pilot. So this last week I did join the Gun Owners of America and will soon join the Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership. I too lived in California in the 80's & 90's and whatched in dismay as the NRA abandioned us and let the "assault weapons" ban go into effect. The NRA did nothing for us. Then again in 1999- Gray Davis's second "assault weapons" ban went into effect too! :o Still the NRA did nothing! Also around the same time the governor of New Jersy sighned their "assault weapons" bill. All the while the NRA did nothing. All that along with the national 1994 "assault weapons" bill sighned by then President Bill "slick willy" Clinton. Has shown me that the NRA has caved in and allowed too many comprimises in our RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS! All I know now is that we(firearm owners)must truly fight for ourselves-if we want to keep our right to firearms! AR15 Fanatic- I do agree with you about the Second Amendment. That it truly is a dooms day provision. There to fight off a tyranical government. The Second Amendment says absolutly nothing about hunting! Now that being said. I am not an anti establishment, survivalist, nut case. Just a realist. It has taken me a long time to wake-up to what is going on around me (us) with reguards to the slow erosion of our rights. All I know is we all need to do something about it NOW!!!!! Before it really is too late!! Because the time is coming my friends. By this time next year we could all be stuck with our thumbs up our b_tts wondering "what happened"!!!! So do yourselfs a favor and call and write your Senators and Congressmen as well as the President. Tell them that you are not going to take anymore anti-gun legislation in any form. Also that you wiil not vote for, or support, any candidate that votes for a renewel, or attempts to get a renewel to the floor for a vote. Dont rely on an organization to do the work for you stand up and fight for yourself. Togther we can win this thing!!!!!!! :usa:

This is the year of all years to fight for the rights of the second amendment. If we want to sunset and kill the AWB (and I do hope it dies - there are a few pre-ban toys i would like to have in my collection). Watch congress like a hawk. If there comes up legislation that contains more banning of guns and background checks that infringe on our right to privacy, write your congresspeople and tell them NOT to support it. If they vote in favor of such laws, DON'T EVERE VOTE FOR THEM AGAIN no matter how good their election ads are. You are right ralrein that individuals need to decide for themselves about these issues and take action. After all organizations like the NRA began that way. As for california - the election of a more conservative legislature may be the key to ending the weapons banning that occured there. If you get a lot of republicans in the California legislature next election round, write them and tell them to repeal the state's asinine gun laws. I'm sure if the repeals can get passed the senate then Arnold can then "terminate" the old ban laws :D . Seriously I'm glad to see you guys are thinking about these issues and doing the right things with you actions. Take care.
Prior to the ancient battle of Thermopylae, King Zerxes of Persia sent envoys to the Spartan military commanders ordering them to surrender their weapons to the Persians. The Spartans sent Zerxes back a reply - "Come and get them"

I plan on writing my Reps and Senators at least once a month. They don't really keep track of how many times you write, but how many letters they receive on particular issues. If we want to keep our God given rights, we need to defend them. We already know that few of our political reps care about our rights. Its too easy not to write or send emails since someone has already done the work for you, just sign your name.
Thanks for fighting! :2guns:
