So, here it is, 0900, and I am sitting on the concrete bench at the range, sand bagging my mini. I have a target at 25 yards to sight in with (I haven't shot it since I shortened the barrel, modified my flash hider into a brake and put on a Hogue stock) and 250 rounds of ammo (55 gr HP and 62 gr FMJ from Wolf). I fire three rounds into target 1 ... pop, pop, pop ... the brake reduces recoil to about nothing and I am a happy camper ... I fire three more rounds into the next target ... pop, pop, POW!! Hmmmmm, thinks I, that can't be good. So, I unload, unmag, safe the weapon and look at the end of the barrel :( my brake has failed and the end that I had had welded on is wayyyyyyy far away somewhere LOL
Dejected I walked to the target and to my wonder what do I find ?? Three little holes, touching, dead center, two inches low on both targets. No Way, thinks I as I run for more targets .... the rest is history.

20 rounds of Wolf 55 grain JHP at 25 yards using peep sights

The odd thing is, as the barrel got hotter the groups got smaller... at about 160 rounds I'm shooting about a half inch group at 25 yards with a blown out brake and the barrel is hot enough I can't touch it at all. So I let it cool some and settle in to try to shoot for score.

5 rounds, 50 yards, 55 grain JHP, Wolf, peep sights ... best of about 25, 5 shot groups

Well, Big Ugly,
THAT! is some mighty fine shooting! That 50 score might be tough to catch. <_<
Tomorrow I'll be at the range and just might give it a try. ;)
Congratulations on the terrific results from your mods.
Good Shootin'

The funny thing is that the only mod that really counts is the barrel shortnin', my brake self destructed and the stock is drop in .... I guess stiffening the barrel up really helps

Wow! The first perfect score! I had to check the group size. By scaling I get a group size of .487". :D
Guys we have our work cut out. I'm working up some reloads now ;)

Great shooting :ar15:
How much did you shorten the barrel?
Next week i will get my mini, i have alredy worken out nice blue prints on my barrel stabiliziser and Muzzle brake. Im going to pin on a thred adapter instead of the front sight.
Put a scope on yours and do some 100 yard shooting :D
Heeey guys... how much is 20 ounces in Kg or gramms ???

Thanks Pdaddy,
I cut the barrel down to 16 1/4" then crowned it using a conical grinding wheel in an air grinder, course then I had to re-cut the sight pin hole, too.

Thx guys :)
The weight there is the weight of Clarks barrel stabilizizer. First i thought of making mine in almost just Aluminium, but if it's 500 grams i need to make most of it in steel. I'we gona make 2 diffrent brakes for it, one like a AK style and one like the ones with alot of holes all around..
C ya later

Do we need targets with X-rings now? If...I say again, if somebody else wrings out a 50 with their mini we might need to do some hair splitting.
Good shooting man! That's what'll make a guy grin for days right there!

Hey Big guy. A perfect score! You steped up to face the challenge in spite of dificulties. You are the "Mini-14 Shooting Champ Iron sight Class". A title well deserved. Please update your signature to reflect your accomplishment. Excellent Job! :D

Thanks Cajun ... I just got a new 4-12X scope to replace that Simmons that self destructed so hopefully I'll be able to put something on the board for the scoped class, too.

The mini is tough on scopes. I'm changing ranges middle of this month. The new range takes a month to become a member, as they run backgroud checks, and a pannel votes whether to accept ya or not. The old range would only let us shoot a couple times a week, as the Shotgunner's rule. So I may only get to shoot a couple times this month.

I'm on a waiting list for one here too. 6 months to a year wait - have to be sponsered. sheesh

Shot over the weekend and burned my targets in shame .... I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside. I better stick to iron sites LOL
