Got the butt plate from a local dealer for $5.00, I first filled around the edge that mates to the stock because it is odd shaped ... has cuts and indentations to fit on the M-16 (I used an epoxy paste called PC-7) then had to trim the hell out of it with my belt grinder (about 1/2 inch on each end) and generaly shape it to match the Hogue stock. Then I shot it with some black paint because the PC-7 is a dark grey. All in all, except for the epoxy dry time, it took a couple hours to get it where I wanted it.

whad did you do to modify the flashhider into a brake. If I could modify mine then wouldn't it eliminate that "evil"?

Cajun,
Gonna have my cleaning kit in it ... Maybe a couple "emergency" rounds also; just seemed a waste to let all that space go to ummmmm ... waste

Hanksr,

Had a friend that's a welder, weld a piece of stainless accross the end of the flash hider, then I ground it to the right shape (round again), inserted the piece of barrel that I cut off earlier and used that to guide the drill bit so I knew that the hole lined up ... figured that might be kinda important ;)

i love that break, i'll have to find someone who can weld and try that.

BigUglyOne,

Why did you use the B Square type scope mount instead of the factory dove tail mount?

Frogman,

The factory mount doesn't let you use a scope bigger than 40mm (the caps on the 40mm touch the hand guard). Plus, you can't use your peep site with the scope on with the factory sights. I like to have all my options open to me.

BigUglyOne !!!!
The ASI Handguard u have, is it any hight diffrence in that and an standard hand guard ???

I know that on the standard handguard and using a 40 mm scope you need to file the handguard down a bit on the top (the bump)

If you have the standard scope rings and a 40 mm scope and the ASI hand guard, does the scope touch the guard then ??

Marcus,

It is off the handguard by about 1/8 inch ... the scope caps touch, though. I got the handguard at Delta Force Delta Force (http://www.deltaforce.com) (it's on page 21) for $12.00, but make sure you really want it as their return policy sucks, you can only get store credit for a return.

big ugly your a man after my own heart. I am getting mine chopped now. Great idea on that break. I will tell them to keep that piece of barrel. Now I need to find a trapdoor. I am basically building a cqb version of your rifle. Have you put much ammo through her? Curious about wether the weld held

Zydeco76, The weld blew out after a few rounds, I ground too much off, so I did like CJMKERNS (see his post at "Carl's HomeLand Defense Rifle") and silver soldered (in my case) 2 stainless washers inside it. Works Great !!

I've got about a thousand rounds through the brake now, a couple of thousand through the weapon :usa:

I took a stainless washer with a quarter inch hole and brazed it into the brake (after the one I butt welded broke loose) Then I filled the entire end with braze and ground it back smooth on my belt grinder. Looks great and really cuts the muzzle flip down when fired. The bad thing is the large fireball when firing Wolf ammo .. but hey, you can't have it all.

aadje,
In the above post he mentions a quarter (.25) inch hole in his washer.

No problem, 6.35mm sounds right to me.

A .223 is 5.56 mm so a quarter of an inch (.25)must be pretty close to 6mm.

BigUglyOne

it groups pretty good at 50 yards when I sand bag it in tight
