After many years as a die-hard iron sight man, middle age has caught me and I am scoping some of my favorite handguns. Have ordered a Weaver 2x fixed and a B-square no-gunsmith mount for my GP100. What can I hope for in accuracy at 50 to 75 yards with the right loads for my gun? I want to shoot a moderate power hard cast SWC mostly for plinking fon and maybe the occasional varmint. Hope I've made a good choice, as money for these sort of things doesn't come easy. Thanks for any thoughts.

I am new to this board and very new to reloading, but not to shooting handguns or rifles. Congrats on your new purchase and I hope you enjoy it. I , like you, had always used open sights on handguns until recently. My purchase of a Ruger .44 SuperBlackhawk 10 1/2 BBL got me in the mind set of wanting to get back into plinking again, or should I call it plu whacking :)? I shot it a few times open sighted it did very well from 50 to 75 yrds. But years of sitting in front of a computer tend to mess with the eyeballs. So I invested in a fixed power Bushnell 2X32 scope on Burris rings mounted on B-squares Universal weaver style Blackhawk mount. I sighted in the pistol at 46 yrds. seeing as how that is beginning of about the flatest part of the trajectory for the ammo I am using. After I got the scope sighted in, 50 to 75 yrd. shots are grouping extremely well even with Winchester factory Magnum loads, which produced 2" groups of 6 shots at 55 yrds.( using rest ) I have recently reloaded some magnum rounds with 200gr Laser cast bullets and 24.5 gr Herc 2400. I have yet to try these loads but am hoping I can place shots at 50 yrds within 1" grouping. Guess I'll find out soon. Your GP100 should give you results just as good or better than that properly sighted in. With a rest or sand bag I can hit the Bullseye at 50 yrds. Standing or squating though I tend to shoot 2" high and right/ with a 2.5" grouping. I am currntly trying to develop a sling for my pistol to help me overcome this for use in the field. I plan on taking the Revolver along on my Elk hunt this year , and if One comes close enough ( I figure 70 yrds. max) I will find out how well it does on thicker hides. Please let us know how well your GP100 does once sighted in. I know there is a difference between our two Pistols but 2X scopes are 2X scopes. They provide a edge for those of us who just don't see like turkeys anymore. Hope this posts releives any anxiety you had about your purchase, I believe you will be very happy with it once you get used to it.

IMHO the GP-100 is one of the best Revolvers ever made, and definantly one of the strongest.I have one in .357 Mag with a six in. Barrel and at 25 yrds with factory sites you can make a soda can jump all over the place. The scope should make an excellant addition to your gun.Let us know how it goes?

Best!!

2 power is plenty for a revolver.kinda overkill to get a 3x-9x scope for a pistol.my freind has a 2x leopold he want 100 bucks for.its a shotgun site but will work (lots of eye releif)on a pistol but its the wrong color, blue.my 2 revolvers id be mounting it on are all stailess or target grey (srh.480)
