I have recently aquired my first lever action Marlin 336. I have NO clue how to break it down and clean it...any help? Thank you very much....Sonny
Gun Rights Forever!!!
When I clean mine, I uncock it, (move the lever all the way to the bolt open position), then take out the screw that the lever pivots on. This allows the removal of the lever, and the bolt slides out to the rear. Be sure to have the extractor back on the bolt in the right position before reinserting the bolt. The tang on the end of the lever rides in the slot on the bottom of the bolt. I don't disassymble further than that, although I'm sure there is a way to do it. ;)

What 440Volt Said! This is the best way for General cleaning But for a
Complete cleaning you Must take the gun totaly apart,It is not a Hard job
if you have some common sense and the CORRECT Hollow ground screwdrivers
not to butcher the screw heads.Go out and get The Best Complete Lever action Disasembly Guide you can get its written by J.B.WOOD ,It will have your rifle in it and over a Hundread others it gives STEP BY STEP Detailed info on Breaking them down,It will set you back $20.00 but a Good gunsmith charges $35-$45 for the
complete cleaning and what did you gain by letting them do it? GET THE BOOK and DO IT YOUR SELF! Knowlage is best Received through experience ;)
