I walked into the boss's office at the tail end of a conversation that went something like "and she told me that I had to get it out of the house". my first comment was "Your girl friend?".

Next thing you know I'm following the boss out to his car and he's giving me his S&W Model 60-4 revolver that his wife told him to get out of the house!

Man oh man! talk about being in the right place at the right time!

Now I'm not a revolver man so I don't know what I got if anything?

I may want to sell or trade, anyone know what it is worth? He said he only shot about 10 rounds through it and he bought it about 9-10 year ago. I looked and it appears brand spanken new.

Thanks,

Paul

I had a 3 inch barrel mod. 60 and traded it off. I never did like it. It was too large for a small pistol and too small for a large pistol. I got a 6 inch barrel mod. 686 and loved it. I had a buddy that had a mod. 60 in the 2 inch barrel length and we put a new set of fancy wood Mustang grips on it and on the third full house 357 magnum round, it splintered the grips at the screw hole!! Mustang replaced them and that set lasted 5 rounds before they split at the same place.

Far as I know, the model 60 in it's various configurations isn't anything that you'd call "special." As far as what it's worth, that will depend on how movitated the sellor and buyor are. Sounds like you have a near new pistol and you ought to get near new price for it. I don't know what that'd be right now but any local gun dealer could tell you that.

BTW, does your boss have any cojones or has he been nutered? It that HIS house that he was ordered to move HIS pistol out of or what? But I guess if he ever wakes up in the middle of the night and discovers burglers taking the TV and stero set, he can always send his wife in and she can order them out of the house like she ordered the Mod. 60 out. Yeah, that oughta work. :D :D

I hope she ordered him to remove it because she wants a Colt 1911 in 45acp. The model 60 is a nice little pocket gun, it is not worth a whole lot.

First, is this a legal transfer in your state? Most states require some formal documentation for transfer of a handgun and run you through the NCIC system or such. Don't get on the wrong side of the law.
Second, I would be considering selling something unless you have a bill of sale or some other proof of [transfer of] ownership. Getting him to sign off will also make sure your boss doesn't expect it back someday ...
Third, you have a really nice, high quality firearm that chance circumstance just dropped into your lap. You might want to spend some time with it before you get rid of it. Revolvers grow on you more than autos. You might decide you really like it (and your boss would probably feel better to know it had found a good home).

Thanks for the input all.

CW,
We do have a law to follow here in CA and the gun will be transfered according to law. We also have a "you may loan a gun" law good for 30 days as well providing no one is of the prohibited class.

As far as keeping the revolver, I already own one and really don't have use for another.

I must admit I am a semi-auto kind a guy.

Thanks,
Paul

Don't underestimate the long proven capability of the humble 38 to get the job done (the M60-4 is a J Frame 38 Special).

I often carry mine (a M60-7) around the ranch and in the desert when I need to be free of the size and bulk inherent with carrying my 629 Trail Boss or Para Ord 45.
