I have heard glock recommends no handloads especially lead to be used in thier weapons. Has anyone had any problems with using lead hand loads through the glock. I have fired nothing but 230 rn lead handloads through my Springfield 1911 A1 for the past 15 years with no problems at all. Will I be able to do the same with a glock 21?

Put a lot of lead loads through my glock 17. A lot of cleaning but no probs. The glock 17 is designed to use European sub machengun loads so you cant load as light as you can with most US 9mms and I still had no Problem. I think this is just part of a disclaimer.

Glocks use polygonal rifling that allow jacketed bullets to "sqeeze" thru the bore without cutting into the bullet much. If you shoot cast bullets in a polygonally rifled barrel the bullets tend to skid across the rifling and lead the barrel. Since you don't have cut or conventional grooves to be cleaned out by each next shot the cast bullets try to "sqeeze" thru a smaller and smaller hole thus raising chamber pressures. I hope this makes sense.

There is a post on reloading for the Glock - either on the High Road or Assult Web.

If you want to run lead, might I suggest getting a convential rifled aftermarket barrel? Than you won't have the buildup concerns.
Another place Glocks, reloads and lead have been discussed a lot is over at http://www.glocktalk.com

Lead bullets are not recommended for a Glock due to the type of rifling in the barrel which can fill with lead and raise pressure dramaticly.

I've run a diet of 95% lead thru my G21 since 92 and while it does tend to lead, it does tend to get cleaned well also. Just shoot any jacketed ammo first when you go to the range. I never heard of a 45 glock KB'ing from lead, its always the 40's & 9's. Probably due to the fact that 45acp operates at a seriously lower chamber pressure than either of the two aforementioned rounds. I do not suggest that you do this with your G21, just that I have in mine.
