I bought my pre-ban Chinese SKS's when they were $69-$79!!!!! They are good rifles for that price!! I guess maybe $129-$149 for a real good one now adays!Cause Romanion's are about that right now,Polish also.

SKS's in general ARE OVERPRICED!!!!!!!!!!,it's obscene!

Here in my area prices are a little steeper, and you cant find a Romanian SKS period.I have a Norinco and Yugo,I like the Norinco much better. They say the Norinco is one of the best SKS rifles on the market.Good Luck!!

Best!!

My experiance and prices show a russian sks to be far superior to the chicom. Am I wrong. Both are fun, but I found th russian to be more accurate.

for a early chinese ,blade bayo, nineteen sixtys through early seventies i would go up to $200 out the door if its in like new shape, if its a early sino in great shape i might contemplate $250. for a spike military, mid seventies to eighty or so, in perfect shape $175. for spike, early eighties on, comercial produced for americans $150. do forgive my rough dates its been a while.

yes $70 for chinese sks were the days but no more dealings with the PLA anymore.
i find it harder to acquire romanians for under $200 in great shape, match #s,good finnnish b/c they were not imported(or manufactured) in extreme numbers like the chinese were.
where did you find a polish sks? did you mean yugoslavian or albanian?

in regards to the russian, romanian and chinese comparisons--
the russian and romanians are about identical besides the wood, gas tube release and if i remember correctly the rear sights are different(not sure and to late to go check). some of the early chinese are also almost identical. after all, like the romanians, the ruskies came over and set up the toolings and showed them how to make them. then once they got comfortable they started making changes.

in closing i think the accuracy really varys and depends on a lot of things. most chinese are well used, abused and shot. where as most russians were kept in better shape and not as abundatly imported. if both were brandspanking new off the assembly line i would take either and not worry. now a days i think its all in "who owned it before you and how well did they maintan it".

I have to agree w/ quadfan that the SKS has gotten way OVERPRICED. Not to say that they're not a decent rifle, but they're just simply made (most of em) and should be priced accordingly. I'd say the worst deal going though are the Romanian "AK's"/SAR's. $300 bucks for one of those? You gotta be kiddin' me, for somethin' made so crudely, and all the trouble and expense it's gonna take to fix the trigger slap, canted parts, etc. I remember the Chinese "AK's" being priced around 150-200 and they were new and much better quality. If they can sell their WASR and SAIGA for 150, they can do the same with the SAR1.

I had a Chinese Norinco SKS that I paid around $80 for back around '92 that was OK for that price, but nothing great. It was one of the new production ones w/ a pinned on barrel and terrible trigger pull. Gladly sold that sucker for $100 more than I paid for it last year. I really like the SKS, but I personally wouldn't pay much over a 100 for a decent one, especially the Chinese versions. And if you're thinking of an "AK" style rifle, I'd say you're better off finding a used Mini-30 that's more precision made, and then tune it up.

the average price is around 100.00 to 150.00 dollar range the romianian and chinese being the botom feeders and the russian being the most sought after comanding around 300.00. a carbine sks comands a higher premiun than a normal sks usually around 100.00 more and the one that takes ak-47 mags is usually 150.00 more than a normal sks. they are all great rifles and simple to clean ,fix and operate hope this helps :D p.s. hi grady

I have an SKS from each country of origin and I have to say that my Chinese is the best of the litter as far as accuracy goes.I probably got a good one by luck.It shot so well that I decided to convert it to a scoped rifle.I have done just about every imaginable mod to it to improve accuracy even more.I decided to try the Neco lap kit.Their kit is absolutely f***ing amazing-I recommend all SKS/AK owners use it.You will not believe the results. Its like having a match grade military rifle.I also took the stamped trigger assembly out and replaced it with a blueprinted milled(3.5 lb. pull) one along with both style recoil buffers a muzzle break, choate stock and scope mount(drill and tap)and a tasco 10-40X50 target scope and this bitch is doing 1" groups at 100 yards and 2" groups at 200 yards consistently.Guys at the range can't believe that my rifle is an SKS and doing that kind of accuracy.Last -it does not look like an SKS anymore-looks like a hunting rifle(which it is) since the front site was removed. All the evil features were removed because I did'nt know that Calif. had banned semi-auto's and I missed the registration.
