I'm moving here from Korea next week, and shipping the guns tomorrow. Once I get back, I'm going remove the mount and Bushnell scope, and install an Ultimak rail with a spare Trijicon Reflex on an ARMS #15 mount.
Will post pics when I do this.

Hay mrcr0603, welcome and welcome back. I work real near Ft. Bragg..... Where are you going to do your shooting? If you need a place let me know. I belong to a nice range off post and is pretty cheap to belong to. As for your toy, great minds think alike. My rig looks just like your's. I do not have a scope on mine. There is a show this weekend and I'm going to pick up a new folder for my pre-ban and set it up just like my fixed shock.

My previous tours (this will be my third time at Ft. Bragg) I shot at the Rod & Gun Club. Not bad for $2, but they were kind of restrictive on how you shoot.
Now I understand that you have to register your weapons with the PMO if you're going to take them on-post.
I don't know if I'm comfortable with this, so now might be the time to try somewhere else. I'll be in the area from 24 July, looking for a place to live.
What's the name of the range, and about where is it located?

I bought this Mini around '90 so I could keep my skills up while I was on Recruiting duty.
I have to admit that I had always wanted an AR, so I wasn't wholeheartedly behind the Mini-14, especially after I picked up my first AR.
I'm glad though that I could put these extra AR parts to use!

Cumb. County Wildlife club. Its off of East Mountain Dr. Not to far for the National Ga. Arm. About a mile down the road from the Charlie Rose center. We have a 25yrd range. Its has a berm that keeps it apart for the 50yrd range. And a 100yrd range. The 50 and 100 are together. The fireing line is covered with a tin roof. There are a few things we need to fix and we are working on it. We just got $8000 from the NRA for range improvements. The yearly cost is $40.00........We can shoot 7 days a week. Day light to dark Mon. - Sat. and 1:00 till dark on Sunday. When you get back in country, let me know if you want to check it out.

Sounds good, and I do want to check it out, so you'll be hearing from me sometime in August/September when I receive this household goods shipment.

Welcome to the States, and welcome to the forum mrcr0603. Nice looken mini you have there.
There is a search button upper right, just enter key words, and all related posts will come up. Also you can send a pm (private message) to any poster. Just click on the pm button, for example arrange a day at the range etc. No one else can read the message.

now that looks like the kind of thing that makes schumerfienstienian-ians wake up screaming in the middle of the night! i like it!
:D give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing those critters are out there.
anyway, could you tell us about what you have on the end of the barrel? does that MBFH do anything for accuracy? looks like you got the barrel shortened, too.
what kind of accuracy do you get with it?
welcome back!

I agree with you on that. The Mini is a good rifle to explain to the unknowing about "features", just by switching from the factory wood stock to the Choate.

I had originally cut the barrel as described in the instructions for the Choate birdcage flash suppressor. Used a hacksaw, then sanded and polished the muzzle.
When I purchased it, I believe the brand name was Federal Ordnance. I have seen it for sale on the 'Net, but not as a Fed Ord.
It's been quite sometime since I've shot this Mini, but I'd be comfortable to say that I'd get 2 1/2" to 4" five-shot groups (benched/scoped).
welcome back!
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't recall a LTC Logan.
BTW .... I was stationed in Yongsan (Seoul), Main Post.

Love the look of your mini!
How did you attach the rail under the fore stock?

The rail is a GG&G UFIR, which is designed to mount onto AR handguards using screws through the ventholes.
What I did on the Mini is drill the holes, since there aren't any ventholes in the stock.
Only problem is the upward angle, which makes the angle of any attached lights less than optimum.

Trijicon Reflex II on an ARMS #15 and B-Square mount; Surefire 6P with a Z32 shock-isolated bezel in a KAC 1" light mount, on a GG&G UFIR.
I had to modify the B-Square mount slightly so the crossbar in the ARMS #15 would fit in the slot.
Just need a raised cheek rest of some sort because of the elevated optic.
The light on this left side works MUCH better than being on the bottom. I'm able to have a regular hold on the forearm, and use my thumb on that hand to activate the light. Works great!

Great looking set-up you have there. Really brings out the true nature of the mini14. Thanks for the pics. They gave me some good ideas. come on payday. What kind of rail is that for the flashlight and how did you mount it to the stock? :D :usa: P.s. Did you have the barrel shortened?

Thanks for the compliment ....
The light itself is in a 1" light mount made by Knight Armament Corp. (KAC), designed to attach to picatinny railing.
The rail is an Under Forearm Integrated Rail, or UFIR, made by GG&G. It's the picatinny standard rail primarily designed to attach to AR-15 handguards, which I had lying around after being removed from my AR(s).
To attach the UFIR to the stock I had to countersink the holes on the inside of the stock so that the nuts sat deep enough to clear the inner stock liner.
Works out much better than when I had it mounted along the bottom of the stock, with a KAC vertical grip. This Choate stock just isn't setup for a vertical grip, in my opinion.
I did shorten the barrel so that the back of the flash suppressor touches the step "up" in the barrel. I got the idea from the instructions for my since removed Choate birdcage suppressor.
Just to mention it .... I was wanting to use an Ultimak rail for the Reflex, but the main reason I didn't is funds. I sink my main cash into my two AR's, which means I try and use what I got already on hand on my Mini.
In considering the Ultimak, I was concerned about barrel heat. That's not a concern with this B-Square mount.
I've got to admit that I was looking at selling my Mini, which is what prompted me to get it into the configuration that it's in now. I don't want to sell it now :D
One more thing left for me to do .... is to find a hard plastic cheek rest of some sort, to compensate for the height of the Reflex.
Other than that, I'm happy as heck with my Mini :) ....
Chris
that is one sweet mini. just like what i would like to do if i had the funds.

I bet Blackhawk would have a cheekrest. If not I bet some black foam pipe insulation and a couple of cable ties would work great.

Thanks Topgun!
Other than the B-Square mount, it's pretty good stuff. Some purists won't go for the Surefire handheld light being used as a weaponlight, but we all can't afford multiple weaponlights.
I was very fortunate with the optics; the Reflex and #15 was on one of my AR's until I replaced it with an Aimpoint.
Here's pricing info for you, just in case ;) :
GG&G UFIR - $45
Surefire 6P - $50
Z32 Bezel - $18
KAC Light Mount - $50
Light subtotal - $163
Trijicon Reflex - $250
ARMS #15 - $95
B-Square Mount - $45
Optic subtotal - $390
TOTAL - $553

Not a dense question at all. Be careful though, because once you get into Surefires, your wallet will get considerably thinner  .
The Z32 provides added protection for the lamp assembly, which its nomenclature describes .... shock-isolated bezel.
The only problem remaining with a handheld is that it doesn't have the machined in ridge that the dedicated weaponlights have which prevents the batteries from shifting under recoil and pushing into the rear of the lamp assembly.
Chris
thanks for the pricing info. maybe someday.

Hey there Topgun- I know how it is being on a budget. A place called Productwizard.com has the Surefire 6P for $58.80 that's 15.00 some odd dollars cheaper than TacticleWarehouse. It all adds up at the end of the year. Hope this helps. :D :usa:

Personally, I'd go with the M4. AR accessories are more tailor-made and rugged as opposed to Mini stuff.
As in the title of the thread, what I have on my Mini is what I used to have on my AR's. If it wasn't for that, I don't think I'd buy them just to accessorize my Mini.

If you are looking to raise the cheek weld ATI makes a draganov stock that has a optional cheek rest that will work. I bought one during the gun show this weekend and it fits tight, but fixes the problem(with a little work). Here is the cheek rest for a SKS on the choate stock and as you can see I also added a front grip. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks for the info and pic on the cheekrest .... I had just happened to think of the same idea, and e-mailed Choate about the cheekrest.
In their reply, they stated the same thing as you!

I countersunk the holes by creative use of a standard hand drill and knife.
