Took the picture to another site and recieved this answer. The receiver illustrated (X-1004) is an example of the early method for "recovered, mutilated or destroyed" serial numbers to prevent duplicates. Some show indications of an older ground off serial number and some do not.

This same serial number was recorded many years ago along with a few others I have stored. The drawing number and heat lot will show its vintage as being pre WW2. All known SA WW2 vintage "recovered" "X" prefix serial numbers began at 1000 with the "X" prefix. There are 6 serial numbers recorded like this to date. These do not include other letter prefix/suffix duplicate serial numbers that cover the known WRA/SA duplication or the rare X6,000,000 serial number range SA used during post WW2 of 1956 vintage.

The known WW2 examples known all have a revision number of -3 or -3 SA with contemporary heat lots and would indicate a serial range of 65,000 to about 300,000.

The end range of this particular WW2 "X" prefix serial block is unknown. There may be others. It is quite possible SA went to another method later in WW2 if at all. E O
