View Full Version : Smith & Wesson Model 500, 50 caliber
Gooday:
This is my first post to the forum, I am a firearm enthusiast from downunder, and recently sold my M29 Blued with 6" barrel in mint condition.
Then I get the Bullshooter which is a New Zealand Pistol Association magazine and they are advertising the new Smith in 50 caliber with X frame etc, this is interesting, I wonder if any of you guys have experience with this firearm, as I am tempted to get one on indent, also I heard there is a big demand for it in the US. I also reload so one could download the case for plinking and a bit of target shooting etc

Ant, I am glad to hear that you can still obtain handguns in NZ. I hear your country is getting very anitgun.
Geno:
Yes we can still obtain handguns here providing you have the right ticket, you either have to be a collector of belong to a firearms club, they are down on AR15's etc but we can still get them here, but if you want to get a part etc by import that may be quite hard depending on the Police.
When I joined the pistol club the Police arms officer said why not go for all the licenses including collectors, which I did, but now its like getting "blood out of a stone"
Contemplating buying a big Smith 500 as per post, but think it may be impractical due to size etc but may be quite collectable. Would like another M29 with either 4" or 6" barrel blued, handy if someone wants to invade your private life!
Have had H&K Expert .45, USP45's and Gold Cup .45's - I am a reall .45 fan, currently have 1911a1 Springfield which is about all I have apart from a little Browning 32!
Cheers Ant
The 500 S&W is still pretty hard to get here so it may be a while before you can get one. I have several colt, springfield armory and Kimber 1911 type 45s and is my favorite caliber also.
The shop in Wellington advertised on indent so yep its just an advert, I will contact and see what he reckons on availability!
It would be fun to have a play with one, as with my model 29 on full loads they sting your palm, and one guy here reckons your wrist can get damaged over time, but that would be firing heaps of rounds.
I wish in some ways I hadn't sold my H&K Expert 45 as I could shoot Bianci plates at will, them go and use my Springfield and have to get my eye in again, but thats all mainly to do with sights and the extra barrel weight of the expert!

There's a picture of one being fired on the general chit-chat forum.

Looks like a mini-flame thrower. I wonder how hard it is on the shooter's wrists.
