Type of wood?

Does anyone know what types of wood was used for the Russian M44 stock? I'm going to redo one for someone and I don't know a thing about what type of wood they used. It's dark I can tell you that.

My "unissued" 91/30 has wood the color of dark honey with an almost reddish tint. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of wood this might be as well...

I think they are all birch wood. Thats what I have been told any way.
