hey this is cool, I've been on the mimi30 forum but never thought to look into this. I have an old (very old - 1935) Browning A5 I got from my dead grandad. He messed with the stock and screwed it up so it's toast as far as a collectible goes. It is built like a brick sh&t-house and has never once jammed on me. I'm thinking of taking the barrel down a couple inches and making it a home defender. I've only had shotguns to duck hunt in the past and never used .00 before. I've heard about different shot/slug combos and my question (finally) is - what do you guys think is best combo in the tube for home defense. thanks dudes.
The 'buck and ball' is quite formidable. But how close is the next house to you and is your place brick or 'stick built' (plywood and siding etc)? I keep a Mossberg 590 and 'low recoil' 00Bk. I'm in a 'stick built' and have a staircase, once someone is on the stairs they only have up or down to go, I ain't hunting them, they can come to me and the Mossy. Keep in mind over penetration lest you kill or wound a neighbor accidentally. Other houses are fairly close and firing from an elevated position lessens the chances of rounds exiting the house. In defense, cover all your angles, tactics, legalities, preserve evidence to defend your actions. If you hear a 'bump' in night, you could go to a full combat situation at extreme speed, plan your defense in detail... you'll have enough to think about, if you do alot of it automatically it saves time.

I would not be so fast to cut that barrel down Even with the screwed up stock
I think it will bring a nice dollar,If you dont want to keep it put it up for auction
and then get yourself a Factory New Defensive piece. My 2 Cents

Most LEO Agency's carry no.4 Buck then a slug and so forth. The FBI did extensive testing and came to the conclusion no.4 Buck was best.IMHO I would try different loads and see which one my gun likes best.
