WOW!!! There is another Single-Action revolver on the market. This is made by Beretta. It is the Beretta Stampede. Beautiful to say the least.

Do not have any pricing information.

Aren't these the same as the old Uberti Peacemaker clones. I heard Beretta bought them out. The Ubes were pretty nice pieces, though.

I just picked one up. It's a beautiful gun. The action is very smooth and it shoots great just out of the box.

Price is not bad at all. According to the latest issue of Shooting Times the price is $465.00-$622.00(depending on finish).

Now I'm really confused. I do not own any handguns. I want a sidearm to go with my levers. I would like to have one for each caliber, but that would be rather expensive even at these prices. But I'm at a dilema.

What to buy? I like them all. But I have to decide on just one caliber. But is has to be in that price range.

I like the Stampede, the Rodeo(U.S.F.A.), and the new Gunfighter from Navy Arms. The Gunfighter comes in stainless too. Most likely one in 45 Colt.

With nearly ALL the single action Italian imports the wise man is restricted to carrying it loaded 5 shots and hammer down on an empty chamber. And make no mistake, the Navy Arms & Cimarron Firearms Ubertis, the Aldo Ubertis from Brescia, Italy, and the Beretta guns are excellent value - and I have about a dozen in my safe.

BUT,

The Ruger is better, stronger made, you can safely carry the New Models loaded with 6, their service and support is excellent (and fast) and they are American.

Oh, and they make convertible models - you can get a Blackhawk convertible with two cylinders: 1 - 45 Colt and 1 - 45 ACP. I have a brace of 44 mag Bisley Vaqueros that are the cat's whiskers.

If I could have ONLY one handgun for everything, I believe it'd be a stainless steel Ruger Blackhawk probably in 44mag. I think 2nd choice would be a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible in 357mag (w/ the extra 9mm cylinder).

One last thing - I've been shooting cowboy action for many years now. Back when I started nearly everyone opted for either Italian clones or original Colt revolvers. Today, I believe better than half the participants shoot Rugers because of the durability and cost value of the Ruger.

Ya, pays yer money and ya makes yer choice, but isn't it grand that we have the option?

You are probably right on all accounts with the Ruger. Except for one thing. They just do not have the FEEL of a Colt. They may look like one but that is it. The Italian clones have the look and FEEL. I use to have all the Blackhawks even the 32-20/32 H&R Mag and 38-40/10MM. Rugged and a good work horse indeed.

Even the Colt Cowboy does not have the FEEL. Pick up a Vaquero, a Colt 1873 SAA and a clone with your eyes closed. I can distinguish the Ruger from the Colt/clones.

Maybe if Ruger decides to trim the frame down to the correct dimensions.

But until then I'll go with a clone. When the right one comes along.

I'm not sure, but the Bereta MAY have a transfer bar safty like the Ruger. They did buy Uberti but the Stampede is a higher dollar Colt clone. It might be made in the Uberti plant, I don't know. One fix for the Rugers is to buy thinner stocks for the pistol. everal companies make 'Gunfighter" grips that are much thinner and make the Ruger feel more like a Colt. :2guns:

It is not just the grip. The frame is larger. I understand that the first Ruger Blackhawks called Flattop?(I think) were the same dimensions as the Colt. But with the New Model the frame size increased. I haven't taken any measurements but you can visibly see the difference when you have them side by side. And FEEL the difference. I have nothing against the Rugers. It is they just do not have the FEEL. And I'm not interested in shooting a T-Rex with a hand cannon.

Maybe I should see if I can find an old Flattop to try out.

Ruger should maybe bring out the "Flattops" on a "limited" run. No transfer bar needed. I'm happy having a 5 shooter.

I believe that Holiday is correct. The Stampede does have a transfer safety bar similar to the Rugers and they're $499 at Galyans. This was for the Delux model. I know the others are cheaper.
