Heading out the next few days to see how she likes Wolf 223. All the other cheap stuff I have run throught her went off with out a problem. I now have 4 different long guns that eat 223's. And with my 12 year old son behind the trigger of the AR, I need to get a truck load of something cheap. I will let you know how she works and what size group I print. I still say you do not have to spend $800.00 to get a good AR. I have had a Colt, Bushy and Armalite and to tell you the truth, this one is the one I'm going to keep. I think part of the reason I like it a little better, is that I picked the parts and had a hand at putting it together. I can tell you that the QC was top notch. We made sure each and every part looked and fit perfict.

I have shot almost 1000 rds of wolf in my ar15 and I don't recomind it
I love wolf ammo for my .45 acp but I don't like the way is sticks up my ar15

I'm with snarlgard on this one,wolf+AR-15's=YUCK! I've not had good luck with them in my mini-14's either.But their pistol ammo does work.I also buy the south african .223 and aside from some dented brass,found it to work well,and the price isn't too far off what the wolf costs.

I have to agree with the above posts. My 10/22 loves Wolf MG 22 ammo, but my AR-15 does not. Sticks, hard to extract, and I could not get any good groups. Had a guy give me 5 rounds of the South African ammo, also in the sealed battle pack and it shot so much better than Wolf..........Also tried to shoot the Wolf in my Remington 700 tactical rifle. Had to get a wooden mallet to open the bolt up so the round would eject.........no more WOLF in my 223.........:mad:

So far it's unanimous.......if you want to use it go ahead, but it's not recommended. You'll need a good cleaner to clean the primer and bullet sealant out of it.

Try the Barnhaul instead. No gunk from the primer sealer, avail in 62 gr or 55 gr.

Shot 2K through my four (4) differ 1/7 Colt Chrome line barrels w/o incident, and with good results. :ar15:

I won't put wolf in any gun that I care about.

I've had nothing but bad luck with wolf .223. Even had a cartridge split on me in my Mini-14.

That being said, I love the crap for my AK-47. That gun eats it right up. But that is a 200 dollar gun, not a thousand dollar gun that I'd like to keep in good condition.

Its kind of funny. Most of the gang on the mini site say they shoot it in the AR's and mini's with out ever having any trouble. And my S.F. buddy that built the gun and all his 3 gun race guys shoot all they can get there hands on. As a matter of fact, the S.F. guy and friends just got back from the range this weekend where they burned 1000 rounds and never had one fale. And did not clean the AR's untill they where finished. ???????? Why is this there such a difference between the 2 groups?

I think like anything else, there could be a big difference in the batch of the ammo. I know that what I was shooting had what appeared to be a lacquered finish on it. When this stuff got hot, it melted and stuck in the chamber. Maybe all of the wolf 223 does not have this lacquered finish on it...........???????????

If you run a milspec chamber (like in the Colt Sporter HBAR, for example), it will shoot anything. If you run a match chamber (or anything like it), cheap or dirty or out-of-spec ammo will gunk it up quick.

Mini-14's are loosly chambered, and don't blow gas into bolt, unlike the AR-15, so they are more reliable (but don't get me started on their magazine situation).

Amen on the mags for the mini's. The only ones I have are PMI's of factory. My AR has an A2 chamber and it looks like it will take about anything.

Not to knock the Mini-14 (I don't want to start a war), but it always cracked me up about how people complained about the AR-15 for unreliability vs the Mini-14, but the Mini-14 has the most unusal collection of crappy, unreliable mags on the planet.

The AR-15 has USGI mags that are plentiful and relatively cheap.

And good quality AR-15's are very reliable. Just less reliable when dropped into mud, etc. than a Mini-14, and neither is an AK-47 that can fire when rusted shut (grin).

I spoke with a Wolf salesman at the Shot Show (yeah I know a salesman, but still) about the complaints of Wolf gumming up ARs. His claim is that what used to cause problems wasn't the lacquer (which won't melt in a gun) but rather the waterproof sealant that used to be put on the round. newer wolf does not have this waterproof sealant and therefore is supposedly more reliable.

I've shot wolf through my AR without a hitch. it is stinky and not of great quality, it seems to vary in recoil and muzzle flash, but if you're gun will run it, it's cheap blasting ammo.

Unfortunately the South African is getting tough to find (at least for the moment).

I think that wolf salesman was blowing smoke up your @ss. The laquer finnish is the water proofer. The cases are steel they rust if they don't have it on them. If they dont Melt at chamber presure they are still harder then brass. Which is harder on your gun. But who knows, if you save enough money shooting the cheap ammo to pay for another bolt ever other year great shoot it and be happy. :ar15:

I have not heard of anyone else ever breaking a bolt using wolf. I have heard of other things, but never a bolt. And as for what aimless said about the new wolf load, its true. I am still looking for the write up in a magz. I read about it. MY S.F. race gun buddies have shot a pile of it over the years and have NEVER had a problem with it.

wolf ammo suxs ass in an ar-15 ..sticks up everything wont shoot worth a crap. and jams up in my bushmaster and my rock rivers i'll never make the same mistake twice...you get what you pay for.......:mad: :mad: :mad:

If you do decide to shoot the Wolf ammo, just be sure to take along a good sturdy cleaning rod. You might have to bang out a stuck case.

Local range rents an M16 and they only sell Wolf to shoot out of it. They clean it every 5000 rounds or when it stops working. I personaly put 400 rounds through it in one sitting with no jams. I have yet to try it in my own guns though. I would not be afraid to. I've been buying the Winchester white box from Walmart. Kinda goes under the wife's radar that way. I had trouble with the South African out of my Ruger. The worst thing that could happen with the Wolf is it would jam. Try a box or ten and see how your gun likes it.
