did you install the trigger? If so is this something a reasonably mechanically competent person can do without special tools?

No, I did not do the trigger work. I'm sure I could fit and install it, but it would not be a "trigger job". I leave that to my Gunsmith.
One can buy trigger that will "drop in" but I'm not sure how much slop would be there. Better to fit one (mine is a Videcki).
If you have a vice and a fine file, you should be all set - but clamp the file, not the trigger.
