I would have to say the stingers, but you can't shoot these out of all Ruger 10/22's.
Stingers should not be used in the Ruger 10/22T (target rifle)
What is your favorite round for the 10/22?
Wolf Match Target
(Got to talk to those people........dang it.........should be called COYOTE Match Target ammo)
Ever try Winchester Power Points? A lot of people say they shoot the best in any .22. Federal Classic is the one that shoots best in my 10/22
Definitely the Rem Gold Bullets. Reliable to the max (even with semi-unreliable aftermarket magz) and cheap. Besides that those stingers pack a wallop and are definitely on my high list. I really have not wanted to try out MOA on all my ammo. I just find a far away target and see if I can hit it one time after the other. I have had federal's jam my previous 10/22 time and time again. No problems yet with my remingtons.
CCI greentags work great for me. I get one big hole at 50yds with them. Out of a .920 barrel of course.
Also, with the reduced muzzle blast, the squirrels come right back.:D

I am building a target 10/22 and am still in the ammo search stage. Have tried CCI mini mags, Rem Golden, Winchester Super X, and Federal Lightenings. The Winchester Super X slightly did better. I bought a brick of K-mart Dynapoints, They are Winchester Super X Hollow Points. I made a rim thickness guage out of a fired .223 case, and measure rim thickness, and weigh so am sorting them to see if I can get near match ammo consistancy. Am on vacation next week so will do a lot of shooting. Will post the results. Am also ordering match ammo to see what is best.
I will also try some Hyper velocity like the CCI Velocitors, but I have a feeling the std velocity will win out for tighter groupage.

For targets have you tried the Sub-Sonic?

For targets have you tried the Sub-Sonic? Not yet, but I plan too. The targets I'll be shooten at are at long range.

I use Dynapoints, and Remington Golden bullets. I think the Remington's have more pop than the Dynapoints..
Wolf MT. Shoots well, fairly cheap.

My 10/22 didn't like the Rem Golden bullets. It had some misfires, and didn't group well. Just goes to show how each rifle is different in its favorite ammo.
Am still looking for wolf. Seems everyone was out for a while.
Cajun,
Wolf MT is worth a try. Shoots dirty--lotsa soot. The lube is slimy, but does it's job. Doesn't foul too bad--the carbon soot cleans up fast, little lead fouling for me.
I've purchased through these folks

with good results. YMMV.
Has anyone tried the Aguila Super Maximum? It's a 30grn, pretty hot round. Look like its still super sonic at 100yds (on paper). I was wondering how they grouped, and if they fell into the same catagory as stingers in regards to the safety of shooting them in a Bentz chamber.

Best groups so far from my near stock 10/22T are from:
PMC Zapper ($1.60/box 50) -- best groups, slight copper coating, still waxed, so it fouls magazines (best 50-yd groups were 3/8" 5-shot, 13/16" 10-shot; all sandbagged, etc.)
CCI Blazer ($10/500) -- this is what I shoot most often, very inexpensive, and shoots almost as good ast PMC
PMC Sidewinder ($1.50/50) -- great groups, no copper coating, waxed, so it fouls magazines
PMC Moderator HP ($1.75/50) -- great groups, no copper coating, min. wax, does not cycle reliably, lots of stovepipes
Winchester Super-X solids -- great groups, copper coated, no wax, does not foul magazines, but there are several Super-X -lableled boxes, and they do not all group the same
Fed. 711 - good groups; reasonable price in bulk pack, but a lot misfires and they appear to have have batches with bad primers which do not ignite.
Fed Gold Medal Match -- very good groups, but not worth the extra cost since PMC beats it and Blazer is quite close
CCI Mini-Mag HP, 1-1/4" high, 2" left; decent groups
Other stuff:
CCI Stinger -- 2-1/8" high, 3/4" left ( 2" high, 2" left @100 yds) -- not very accurate at all, but powerful, copper jacket with no wax, cycles very reliably
Aquila SSS 60 gr - unusual round in short case -- shoots low in rifle at 100 yds, but should have a 1:9 twist to stabilize….. shoots superbly accurate in pistol (dead on past 100 yds on clay pigeons!). Excellent power retention at 100 yds out...
Aquila Super Maximum 30gr -- only tried this once in the AR-7. Worse "groups" I've ever had, more of a pattern, some off the paper. Pressure was so high I was getting a face full of hot powder. Don't like it.
Reminton Thunderbolt -- "Rot-gut" ammo with awful, blown-out groups about 3 x larger than other ammo. Avoid this like the plague..

Thunderbolts are the dirty. The worst ammo I've ever used.

Thanks for the link pwharve.
You betcha Cajun.
Least I could do. The only reason my Ruger shoots well at all is because of all of the help I received from y'all here at PUBBS.

The only rimfire ammo I even buy anymore is Federal's "American Eagle" 38 Grain Copper-Plated (NOT the lead) High Velocity HPs. It's proven extremely reliable and very accurate in all my 10/22s, as well as my rimfire pistols. It comes in a 400 round brick for about $10, and even shoots very cleanly. Give it a try! :D

Got to agree with the American Eagles. The wife and I got out to our range with our 10-22's yesterday. We were cleaning up some odd lots of ammo. Regular Federals shot good, but the American Eagles were making one ragged hole.
Then we switched to some Winchester Wildcats and the groups went to 3" with flyers all over the place ! Big enough spaces in the groups to let sparrows, blackbirds, and ground squirrels sit and laugh back.
I've always had consistent good luck with Remington Gold, but their Thunderbolt is first cousin to the Winchester Wildcats.... just plain bad.
