Anyone know if Portuguese FNM ammunition is Boxer primer without a military crimp? I ordered a few boxes in 6.5 x 55 and confirmed it's current manufacturer, non-corrosive, brass cased with FMJ bullets, but forget to ask about the primer.

I ordered from Cole Distribution (http://www.coledistribution.com)

If it's Portuguese NATO surplus, then you can count on it being berdan-primed and crimped.

INDEP FNM makes both military and civilian ammo.

I've not used the 6.5x55 or the .223 but I have used the 8x57 Mauser and the 7.5 MAS that Indep makes and Coles sells. This stuff is commercial and has boxer primers.

I'd call Coles and ask.

Well, I've find out soon enough if the brass is reloadable....it arrived yesterday and if all goes well I'll shoot some of the FNM this weekend. :ar15:

If the primer pops out when you run the decapper rod in there it is boxer. If the rod breaks off it is berdan. <G>

Yep, a busted decapper pin is a sure indicator, right!
