anybody in to ruger gp's?
i love my kgp-141 357mag:usa:
whats your favorite round to send down range from it?
i use georgia arms 158+p gold dot @1475 from a 6" barrle, mines a 4" so i figure i'am getting around 1350fps it's accuracy is poa @ 50yards, this is my winter round, in the summer i change over to winchesters 148gr silvertip @ 1290fps out of a 4" barrle this round seem pretty soft and seems to frag on impact.
lets hear your story ;)

I have never owned a DA Ruger but they seem very popular.
I've had one for three years now. I think I've only shot it twice with hand loaded SWC. I've been taking my daughter shooting starting out with .22's, moved up to 9mm. Next will be the GP100 then the .45 acp & .45colt. :2guns:

I like cci blazers. They offer a 158 grain JHp, And most of the time I can find it for around $10 a box. Second is Winchester's 110 grain JHP. I used to shoot alot of Fiocchi ammo. My gun shop used to carry that.

NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ROUND????
Silvertips are soft lead with aluminum jackets. Not much penetration as they are made for expansion.

I have had a G100, SS 4" barrel for 2 years now and love the gun. I put a Wolff reduced power spring kit in it to get rid of that heavy trigger pull. I hand load using Hornady 158g XTP over 15.0 gr Hodgon H110. I have also loaded the same charge with the Hornady 180 XTP. Both are a handful in the GP. I have recently loaded the Remington 158g Golden Sabor HP but haven't had the chance to try them out. If they perform as well as in my 9mm I won't be disappointed.

i've heard the 147gr ST was based on the 125gr 357mag load that did so well in one shot stops, designed to fragment like a 125gr but with a little more weight behind it?????

cops gp-100
I have a friend who is a gunsmith and always says the Ruger will never be a Smith. Now, having said this, my own experiences are different. I carried a Smith Model 19 for many years. With a lot of action work, it was a good gun. I also had a Ruger Security Six and out of the box, it was a great gun. I also have a Ruger GP-101 with the 2+ inch barrel and it shoots great groups. I have a Ruger GP 100 and Smith Model 66 both stainless and both 4 inch barrels. I took them shooting for comparison. If I had to choose, I'd take the Ruger GP-100 in a heartbeat. No apologies to my friend, but the Ruger just feels right, shoots great, and can be tweaked to shoot really nice...and for a whole lot less than other revolvers. I love mine and may get one with a six inch barrel some day.

I've had my GP-100 since 1997 and have put many thousands of rounds through it. I handload and I have shot several different bullets and bullet weights through it but my favorite just for blinking is a 158gr SWC. The GP-100 is by far my favorite revolver in 357 Mag.

:usa: Hey, Wicked Willie how about 145gr. silvertip
85% one shot stop {gives time for a well placed second shot}
out of 4 inch barrel win. says : velocity muzzle 50 100
1290 1155 1060 fps.
energy 535 428 361 ft.lbs.
Personally Ihave shot these at various targets quite well with
a 6 1/2 in. barrel Ruger Blackhawk the 1shot stats. I have say
penetration is 10-12 inches. also a little more recoil but the Rem.
and Fed. 125gr. JHP jump to 96% these stats are from ammolab
and the ballistics from Win. sites

I handload the 145STs over 6.6gr of Win231 for use in my 4" Security Six...........they're a real tack driver. Would not want to be on the receiving side of the round either
Also the 158gr XTPs over 16.0gr of Win296 holds a very tight group..... looks & feels impressive too - lots of flash & recoil  . Even if you don't hit the perp.................you'll set him on fire with the muzzle flash at close range :D

As I'am seriouly considering one of these GP-161's, and I'm not set up to re-load, I'll be looking for two different types of factory ammo for mine.
#1- for general plinking/target shooting, I'll be looking for inexpensive .38 Spl.....?
#2- for serious target shooting, and occassional thrills, I'll be looking for a hot loaded .357 Mag......?
I also have a Rossi snubbie, and have shot older Remington Peters, and CCI/Blaser LRN .38 Spl's through it with good accuracy for a snubbie, will these rounds do as well through the 6" barrel of the Ruger GP-161.....?

I have one - GP100 4" SS I carry all the time in the woods, and I love it. Reliable, accurate and easy to carry in a good holster. I feed mine one Blaser snake load under the hammer ( I hunt in South Geogia and you need it ) and five 158grain Winchester solid points for some penetration on the occasional deer or hog the steps in front of it.

I hope it never will be either. I've had too many Smith's go out of time or never were i time from the factory.
