I am planning to convert my Mas 49/56 to another cartridge but before I break the barrel loose I was wondering if anyone out there knows what the thread is for the barrel?

My lathe only cuts inch threads and if it is metric this will take additional thinking.

Thanks in advance .

I am interested in what you had in mind for this conversion. I have one too many of these rifles hangin around.

You may find some helpful info on the Mas in the following web sites. I am sorry I dont know the thread pattern but the people at McCann may be able to help. Check out their conversion, pretty impressive.

I decided that a good conversion would be to 6.5x55. The case dimensions are similar compared to the .308 bunch that are much smaller across the base.
I should be able to use the factory mag without a problem and the pressure range is similar, although I will probably add an adjustment screw to the gas tube.

Sounds simple enough.
