View Full Version : Nothing special, but it's my Mini
Standard SS Mini-14 in the Ruger stock. I cut and crowned the barrel to 16" then installed the Choate sight/fh, much better sighting with the Choate. The mags are 30 round PMI's stainless. I had sold my Mini GB(got an offer I couldn't refuse) and later regretted it so I bought this rifle right after Ruger started offering the black synthetic stock. While this rifle doesn't have the "mystique" about it as the GB's do, it will fill my needs plus I don't have near as many $$'s into as I did the GB.

Rick, every mini is special, as no two are alike, and they can be moded so many different ways. Thanks for describing your front sight, as I have been wondering who makes the winged sights. I didn't know ruger made a sling like that one, it is cool. I would get one if I could find one.
The sling came from a 10/22 stainless with a green laminated stock that I used to own. I'm pretty sure this 10/22 version was sold exclusively through Wal-Mart and that has been several years ago. I would suspect you would have to find one at a gunshow. I don't know if Ruger would sale them seperately or not. I have to mention it again, but the Choate front sight is a VAST IMPROVEMENT over the standard front sight. I would highly recommend it if open sights are to be used.

Hey Doc, them fires out yet? I visited my brother in Jefferson this summer, they were still smoldering in July. They should hang the people they caught that set them. My brother said the fires were out now, and the National forests were open now. I used to live in Littleton.
Hey Doc, I wish I had a nickle for every search I've made. I bet one thing, out of the 70 searches you made you got some good add to favorites links. Mine is so big I made many folders to hold the files, and organized them into the folders. The best search you ever made is the one on which you found this forum :D
Doc, since your question was regarding Ricks mini, I merged threads to follow Ricks thread.
Hey Rick, I heard the probass shop headquarters on S. Cambell St. has really grown since I was there last back in 1962. It was awsome back then. I Used to work at the race track.
Yep Bass Pro is has grown tremendously since 62. I was still a pup then, well an older pup:) The World of Wildlife Museum is on the corner of Sunshine and Campbell now and the rest of that section of land is all of Bass Pro property all the way south to McGee and all the way west to Grant. In 62 I think all that was on that corner was a Phillips 66 station. I worked there in the late 60's, early 70's. Unfortunately the race track at the Fairgounds is long gone. It was a sad day when they tore it out. I used to get to go to the races back then whenever I could con my Dad into going. I think Larry Phillips started about then. He was/is one of the best short track drivers in the country. A few of guys you might have heard of were proteges' of Larry to some degree or another and if nothing else competitors. Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin and Ken Shrader come to mind. Larry and Dick Trickle used to put on some great shows. It was classic, Larry was usually the guy to beat and he pretty much was always in a Chevy and here would come Trickle down from Wisconsin with his hot Mustang. Boy I miss those days. BTW that when the 1/2 mile dirt track was being used, in 62 they was still using the 1/5 mile asphalt in the middle.

New addition to the Family. New Mini-14. 580 series. I mounted a Nikon 4X on her and replaced the nylon handguard with a wood one I have had laying around for years.

Oh yeah here's the pic of the rifle in my first post. I guess my host had shut down or changed things. Same description as above. Haven't changed a thing on this one.
