my friend bought a harvester international.........it looks like to me around 80-75% stock has small crack and doesnt seem to have any finish he says he has a certificate that proves its an all orgional....it was made in 1942.........were garand stocks bedded or anything.........i allways assumed they were but never got into garands much i love em but with my budget e-5 marine...........sgt its not practical for me i got bigger gun prioritys.....how much is this thing worth he is very curious he paid 700 i think for it......

I'm not an expert on the Garand but here's my two cents.

Depending on where you are located $700 may be good, to being on the high side. You can get a Garand from the CMP for $400-$500 but you do have to jump through some hoops. In this area (MN) $700 is not to bad if it's in good shape. 75-80% with no finish on the stock and the stock is cracked I would not say is in good shape.

I have never seen a certificate stating that a Garand was original. Not that there couldn't be one from a seller. You say the rifle was made in '42. I think only Winchester and Springfield made Garands during WW II. International and H&R didn't make Garands untill the Korean war.

There are a number of books out there that give descriptions, drawing numbers of parts and S/N breakdowns. I would get one and check out what you have.
