This particular thread was posted today by one of the members on a board that I moderate on and I thought to pass it along here for the benefit of the membership as well........

His thread begins:

Here is a letter from a customer. He asked to remain anonymous. For those who doubted the earlier information, I have known this guy for approx 10 years and consider him reliable. Here it is unedited:

Hi Bill!

As a past and happy customer of yours over the years, I thought that you should know that the newly manufactured MKS M14 receivers and rifles are now deemed ILLEGAL by the ATF.

Yesterday, I received a phone call and message on my answering machine from the local ATF office. I returned the phone call this morning only to find out to my horror that my new M14 receivers are subject to seizure or voluntary surrender. The ATF agent handling the case kindly stated that the receivers are illegal. He did agree to try to get more specific information from the originating office, but currently had nothing more than that. He also agreed that time would be granted for any required disassembly.

Since you have been instrumental in rallying the M14 troops over past issues surrounding the MKS products, I thought that you should be the first to know.

I wish to remain anonymous and please do not forward my name or email address to anyone. The experience and financial loss is embarrassing and shameful enough for me right now. This is all the information that I wish to share at this time. It’s most likely that arrangements will be made by later today for the final disposition and release of the receivers to the ATF.

It’s only too sad to think that a finely machined and masterful piece of historic representation is going to end up in a crusher.

Sadly.

Why are they illegal?

I believe because there is a "possibility" that they can be converted to select fire. I am no pro here by no means and that is why I said "possibility". Maybe someone with a wee bit more knowledge than I can enlighten us but that is my understanding.

Might have something to do with the "once a machinegun, allways a machinegun" philosophy.

:(

Sorry for the loss

It is the "Once a machinegun, always a machinegun" thing. What IDIOTS!!!!! It is so easy to convert a M14 to full auto. You just need the few full auto parts, available at gun shows & mail order.Wittle the stock a little. And weld, braze,or rivet the metel tab at the rear ejection side of the reciever. No rocket science involved. What about "Once a semi auto, always a semi auto"?

When did MKS make M14 recievers? Aren't they the same people who make Hi-Point firearms?

They (MKS) use to take military M-14 recievers that your great government cut in half and reweld them back together.BUT,they also made them to only fire semi-auto,NOT FULL-AUTO.But your government still dosen't trust you to have one since it WAS a full-auto,and made MKS stop doing this. They say "once full-auto always full-auto".So,MKS started making their own recievers. They are one of only two manfactures making them forged. They are TOP NOTCH stuff with a TOP NOTCH price.

And...correct me if I'm wrong, they are in TOP KNOTCH BANKRUPTCY.

Have your lawyer surrender it " under protest " , that is not the correct terminology , but the lawyer will know . Be sure the lawyer does so in a manner to legally perserve your rights . I beleave the NRA is mounting a class action suite against the ATF , in this issue .

God Bless
