Just bought nickle muzzle brake with HK-style shrouded post front sight for my Mini 14. Not having any gunsmith training, can anybody tell me how to remove the original front sight?
There appears to be a pin holding the sight in place. Is this screwed in, or do you punch it out?

That is a pin, and if you use a finishing nail, you can punch it out. Use a hammer and tap on the pin. The sight will still be snug on the barrell. You then have to put the barrell (sight) in a vise, and tap the barrell with a rubber mallet until the whole sight slides off. I installed a Mason Double break on mine, and it slides over the front sight, but from what I understand when you change the sight this is the method you must use.
I did have to remove my pin as well, and it came out easy.
Good luck.:usa:
