View Full Version : Whats your next firearm purchase?
Well whats on your list. Will it be new, used, long gun, handgun? Myself Im waiting for the Saigas in 223. It's been a little while since I've bought anything. I do have a Firing Line milled AK 74 reciever on order when Mike starts running them. Also keeping an eye out for a used Blued 223Ranch at local shops.

I'm trying to talk myself into a 25-06 right now, Remington 7600, limited run. I'm just not sure about it. I like the model, but the price is kind of high, 450.00. HMMMM.....
I'm considering a CZ 75B. Yes I know it's Eastern Block technology and will look funny next to the Kimber, Colt Series 70 NM Gold Cup and the big boy, Desert Eagle 50 AE. But I'm looking for something not as expensive that is accurate to carry.

Sarge, Just now getting around to replying to you on the next purchase deal. If you've never had a 25-06 you will be amazed at what they will do!! I think it is one of the 2 most amazing cartridges I've ever had any experience with. The other is the 22-250. If I could only own one gun and had to hunt everything I hunt with the same gun, the choice would be between these 2. You will love the 25-06!! As one of the writers in some magazine I read said,"the varmint gun from hell" on the varmints. I have killed whitetails, muledeer and antelope withthis round and it has to be at the top of the list as far as versatility goes!!
My next one will probably be a six inch model 57 Smith & Wesson. Got a weakness for the older smiths :usa:

Hey Sarge, Just going thru the posts and realized that the 17 was supposed to be here 1 month ago!!! Tomorrow is 4/1!!! Anyway got 1 more new toy!! Another xp. This one is 223 topped with 3x9 Burris. It's a rocket!!! Shot 3 different factory loads, 50gr Fed Premium, 52gr Fed Premium and 53 gr Win. to the same POI!!!! I've only owned a couple guns that would do that before. I am impressed!! The 9 shot group at 100 yds. measured .547!!!! 3 of each loading. I let a friend shoot a 3 shot group with the 50gr Premiums and he shot a .420!!! It wasn't just me!! I wonder how good it will do when I put a holosight on it!!! GHD PS. Thanks for the jokes!!!

DJSKIT, I called them last week and they are opening a store at Camp Perry where you can go and hand pick! It's about a 4 hour drive for me. I first saw the listing in shotgun news and started making calls at that point. Good Luck on your new rifle! I favor the Military 30-06!
Wow, that's great!
Hey, I just did mapqeust and it would only be a 40 hour drive for me.

Marlin model 1895 in 45/70 Gummint.
I have already started a fund for a custom Texas Trophy Hunter thats a 6mm necked down to .224 1-9 twist and 90 grain projectiles. I have only read about them. Perfect all around gun. As Groundhog pointed out the 25-06 may be more practical. Iwill do more research any help would be nice. I will make my decision when the money is in hand.

I went to Bakersfield CA with my 17hmr caliber, Marlin 17V and I am fully in love with this rifle. Too many squirrels to count and at good distances. Wind is a bummer though.:usa: :D

Was the wind as bad as you had read? My experience with the little gun is that it is not effected as bad as you might think! But then again, my experience with 222Mag, 223, 22-250, 243, 6mm, 25-06, 260, 270, 7mmBR,7mmMAG,280Rem,and 300 WSM wasn't as bad as we had read! I don't get paid to write the articles, I just SHOOT!!!!! The wind drift bull**** is just that until you try it!! I don't have a "Kestrel" wind guage but I have used flags. It takes a heckuva breeze to really knock you off target!! Just got another 17 for a friend yesterday and can't wait to wring it out!! It's a Marlin 17V and it's actually pretty!! Good wood and a good blue job. Topped it with another 4.5-14 Nikon in Millett mounts and I'll bet it will be a squirrel killing son of a gun!! His squirrel season doesn't come in till 10/12!!!!! I'll have it right by then!! GHD

The only two weapons I own that have ever really been affected by wind are the 5mm remington magnum and the 17 hmr. Most situations are during long shots on flat ground with no cover. Believe me there is not even a chance of hitting a mark because of the various gusts in the distance.
I like using 38 grain v-max projectiles in my 223 for squirrel also, that way if there is wind I can just point my Mini in the direction of the flyin dirt and spray.:D :usa:

For my next gun purchase, it woud probably be a Savage 10FP with 26" barrel, in .308, next would be a .45 1911 style.

ivanimal, How good a cartridge is the 5mm? I was just a kid when they came out and saw a few but never shot one. Was in a little obscure gunshop the other week and the old guy had 2 unopened cases of 5mm!! Just curious as to how you think it stacks up with the 17. I'm anxious to see the next bullet that comes out. I'll give up a little velocity to have a more stable yet effective bullet. I think the accuracy is there! GHD

Th e 5MM is an awesome cartidge, if I could get ammo for it I would shoot no other round for squirell. Remington made very accurate rifles for the round, and the few boxes I have of ammo still fire straight and fast.
Can you give me the name of the Gun shop that has the ammo. I would love to buy some more.
There are 2 available conversion kits to switch from rimfire to centerfire I decided to spend the money on a 17 HMR the prices were comparable.:)
